According to ESPN, Troy Murphy could be traded soon, with Dallas, Orlando, and San Antonio mentioned as possible destinations. I hope he lands in Dallas or San Antonio. The East is already strong as it is, and Murphy to Orlando could be huge for the Magic.

Troy Murphy isn't a difference maker.

It doesn't matter where he lands.

Honestly, I'm not sure that Troy Murphy would add much to the Magic, because he'd just be taking minutes away from Bass and/or Anderson.  I think both of those guys are better than he is right now.

The story doesn't make a lot of sense.  The Nets want to trade him to a contender for another expiring contract?  Do any contenders have expiring contracts that they'd be willing to deal for Murphy?

*Maybe* Dallas with Caron Butler, if they're willing to sacrifice their Bird rights and any chance of him coming back in the playoffs.  I think they'd be better off just waiting for a buyout.  Similarly, Orlando won't trade Jason Richardson for Murphy, and San Antonio doesn't have any large expirings.

If they're just getting another expiring player they are also getting a pick out of the deal.

I think they want to add Murphy to Orlando because if Dwight Howard gets in foul trouble, they really have no big men that can come in and at least compete . If nothing else Murphy is a pretty strong rebounder and can stretch the floor.

Apparently Bass is having some knee issues and is toughing it out right now. He probably is going to need surgery on it after the years over , I forget whats wrong with it, but I read that on an Orlando Magic message board

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
If he could be bought out, I'd ever so gladly waive Semih to bring him aboard.

Murphy isn't a "difference maker" but he'd be a solid player coming off the bench for a contending team.  A big who can shoot the 3 is always a problem to defend for any team.  He was a 10/10 guy for IND the past 2 years as a starter.  I'm not quite sure why NJN are not playing him much this year.

If a ORL/DAL/SAS can get him for next to nothing that would be huge.  But he's got a pretty decent contract so they may need to give up a decent player making it a wash overall.

Orlando can use his size and shooting.

Just like Boston loaded up on big men, Orlando can as well.  He becomes the 2nd biggest player in their rotation.

The pick and roll becomes more dangerous when the PF can stretch the defense to the three point line.

For SAS, he becomes and upgraded Bonner.

For Miami, he is a big man that stretches the floor and can rebound.

For LA, it gives them a 4th big man that can play.

I really do not want to see him just cut loose.

I'm afraid some decent players may get bought out and head to MIA.  But Troy on the C's would be amazing.  Good thing Peja went to DAL.

Troy Murphy cares more about minutes than Championships.

He wants court time so he can put up another double double ... so he can get another large contract.

That is his main priority. Not titles.

He'll go to the best team that offers him 30 minutes a night. Not to someone who wants him as their fourth/fifth big man in the depth chart.

Where can he go then to get minutes?

I mean I don't see why SAS would want him, Bonner already fills the same role. Dallas is getting Peja and is already at the roster limit so they don't make sense.

Orlando I can somewhat see, but Ryan Anderson is better so he won't play a ton there.

I don't see any contender offering him that type of role.

Perhaps a return to Indiana or a move to another borderline playoff team like New York, Charlotte or Phoenix. I think those are his best bets.

With the Nets offering him less than 5 minutes per game, I don't see why everyone won't just wait for the inevitable buyout.
