Melo and Harrington

for

Allen, Davis, JO, Bradley/Erden, 1st this year, protected 1st down the road

I don't think Denver would do this as I think they could get a better offer elsewhere, but in theory would the Celtics entertain the notion of renting Carmelo with the hope that he might sign the extension once he gets here (obviously you don't mess with chemistry of this team for a one year rental unless you think you might have a shot at signing him long term).

I would envision the C's going small or big depending on the matchups but essentially would start Rondo, Pierce, Melo, and KG and have a floater depending on the opponent (Daniels/West or Perk/Shaq).
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

Stop snitchin = no place on any team I support (I hope).

No because I think we'd lose too much of our offense at this point in the season. Ray's highly efficient shooting is what allows the C's to work on so many nights.

If the C's made this trade before the season, sure. You could build an offense around posting up Melo/Pierce for most of the game. Have Pierce play SG and it'd be nightmare for most teams to stop.

Yea, you can't do this trade now. I honestly don't know if the C's need another guy who "needs his touches" either, so it's tough to say if I would do this trade before the season either, but doing it mid-season is definitely a bad idea to me.

For a year only - with the team constructed as it is presently, I wouldn't trade Ray Allen for any other 2 or 3 in the league.

If I were a team like Dallas, then sure, but not the Celtics.  They are too good already, and I don't think the fit makes sense.

Assuming he signs an extension I think from just a talent perspective it makes a lot of sense due to the age difference of Ray vs Melo.  I think that's the kind of thing you generally have to do for the long term.

I still don't do it.

I am really for letting this compete for another title run.   But like many others I am concerned about us growing old.   I would seriously consider it but I doubt Denver would.   I know its utter blasphemy but I would rather send PP for Melo in that package.  I know its sacrilege but Melo is a SF.  I would do it only if you could resign him.  I love El Captain though and want him to retire in green.  Never going to happen though, I've read Melo wants to play in the Big Apple with Amare and talk Chris Paul into coming there.

Carmelo Anthony would agree to a contract extension with the Celtics.

So this would sub Melo for Ray in the starting unit, Baby Al for Big Baby on the bench, and then give up young player/prospects and likely low picks?

With an extension, it's a done deal.

Without an extension, I'd take my chances with Ray and BBD.

The Celtics do not need a rental to win a title.

And honestly, I think this trade hurts the fit of this team much more then it raises the talent level.

Now if there was a contract extension involved, that changes a lot.

Didn't look it up, but I doubt the salaries match to even make this trade possible.  Harrington's contract is about the same as Ray's, and now way the other guys add up to Melo.

Melo wants to go to NYK, and nowhere else.

Al Harrington only makes the MLE, so he makes 5.7 Million. Ray Allen signed a two year 10 million per deal IRC. So it would actually add up pretty closely.

Honestly, I could see the Nugs buying out Ray, who they wouldn't really want anyway for rebuilding.  Add in $3 million cash for the buyout...

...then Ray returns to Boston after a 30-day vacation?  Who doesn't do the deal now?
