Read another person's thread/post earlier about hating Varejao when LeBron was there, but now I'd like to root for him. Rebounding machine, hustler and rightfully paid(IMO)

Saves Cleveland money over 2-3 years. BBD could fit right in there, and Nate swaps out Gibson.

For us it's simple. Varejao comes back and becomes the 6th man. Gibson is a better ball handler and can pass and shoot(defended well when healthy and in the rotation a few years ago.
Add in Parker as a wing(or Moon if need be) that can defend 2's and 3's and still hit the open shot.

Adding in some draft picks makes this a realistic trade for Cleveland to me. They then trade or buyout Jamison so he can run off to another contender(though I think his skill set is toast, similar to Antoine at that point in his career)

EDIT - I know Varejao is injured now, but I think he could come back sooner than expected. Either way, still and upgrade over BBD hands down(and we'll lost Davis to free agency anyways b/c teams like Sactown and Memphis will want to overpay him)
Can't stop, Rondo!

Well.. BBD could fit - but how does that work out with JJ Hickson? I haven't exactly been following the Cavs this year, and I know they have been miserable, but I would still expect them to be rather high on him. Neither of those guys can effectively player center, something that Varejão indeed can. He might sometimes be listed as a PF, but the way he positions himself on the floor I'd more than anything call him a center.

I don't think it's even a question that Varejão would be an upgrade over Davis on the boards and as a defender, but in terms of offensive versatility I'm still sticking with Big Baby. He's shown time and time again this season that he can be a very good, and efficient offensive player, as long as he is not the 'go to guy' on the floor - I'm not sure Varejão will give us the same. As an offensive player he's more in the mold of Perkins.

I think Boston would take this, guaranteed that Varejão indeed returns soon - however, I don't see why Cleveland would take it, unless Varejão is growing unhappy, and they don't want to pay him. If that was the case, wouldn't they offer him for upgrades at the 1, 2 and 3, where they do not have intriguing prospects - And then 'rebuild' around Hickson and Varejão (or at least use them as pieces)?

I would not minding having him on our bench.  He hustles and plays D and rebounds.  It would be a good way for the Cavs owner to screw over LeBron by loading us up but bad for his business overall.

I'd take a Perk type for the bench over Baby in a minute, though if JO were healthy we'd have less of a need for him.   Don't think this deal gets done, but I really like Varejao.

Would love to have him on this team, especially long-term. As we all know, we are in a win now mode. Consequently, this would hurt our chances short-term (this year).

Since AV is hurt, if we give up Baby, we would in effect be without a backup power forward until AV gets healthy. Our bench production would go way down, and HCA becomes more problematic.

In addition, assuming we get a healthy AV back some time this year, and that's not a given, it will take him more than a short while to learn and be comfortable in our system. We'd get too little too late from AV. We need baby now.

Now if we can get him for something other than Baby..... but I just don't see how it could happen.

Yes he is; just shows how very little these "fans" know.

Haha wow. Easy!

I like varejao but wouldn't  take any sort of risk on him til he's entirely healthy. He won't be helping us more than BBD this season.

He is one of a select handful of players in the league I would not want on the C's regardless of how much they can help.

Not sure if I want any of the Cavs losers on this team.  Might turn into the Cavs. :-\

I'd make that deal after the season but not now.  I'd love to have a guy like Varejao on the Celtics.  He is a championship caliber defender and hustler.

I disagree and wouldn't you had to be a part of a championship team to be considered a championship caliber player.I don't remember Varejao reaching that status in his career yet.

I'd honestly rather have Jamison
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner
