Celtics: Black Sneakers White Laces

When I first started watching basketball, I noticed that the
Celtics at times were the only team that never wore white sneakers. As a matter of fact they would always wear black sneakers with white laces or black sneakers. This lasted for quite a bit of time until maybe over a decade ago or even more recently ...

Does anybody know why? Still today when I see the Celtics wearing white sneakers it doesn't go by unnoticed. I don't think I've ever seen Bird or Parish in a Cs uniform with white sneakers.

The weirdest combination nowadays is when Rondo and Semih are sometimes the only guys wearing white sneakers when the Celtics play in green, along with black socks (ugly as hell if you ask me).

The world moves on and there are too many choices out there now to ever go back to plain. Also, the specialized sneaker has lots of perks like arch support, etc.

green and white for jerseys should be the only Celtics

Still bothers me.  And to the poster who mentioned all the different type of sneakers being a potential reason why, the 91 Celtics had Bird and McHale with his Black Converse, Reggie and Dee Brown with the Reebok Pumps, Brian Shaw with Black Nikes and the Chief probably had like Avia or something.  So there were a lot of different brands, but they all had black.

No idea why this was ever changed but it still doesn't look right to this day and annoys me seeing white sneakers with Celtics uniforms.

long story short, it was a clubhouse-type rule.  when danny took over (and i think when red passed away), danny gave the approval to allow players to wear white sneakers, which has morphed over the last couple of seasons of players wearing whatever color they want (blk, wht, grn).
