I knew he was playing bad when he first got traded to Orlando, but he just continues to struggle . Over his last 5 games his numbers are

18MPG, 8PPG, 2APG,2 RPG,1.6TO,35%FG, 31% 3PT FG
  62%FT

His numbers overall with the Magic in 13 games is

22MPG, 9.5 PPG, 4APG,2.7 RPG,2.5 TO,37% FG 34%3PTFG
 65%FT

This was such a stupid and unnecessary trade for the Magic to make . They already have the same kind of PG with Nelson who is younger , much more efficient and durable . Plus he doesn't have that horrible contract Arenas has.

The Magic would have been much better off just holding onto Rashard Lewis after they made that trade with the Suns. He plays very well with Hedo and would have at least given the Magic some big man depth by allowing Brandon Bass to come off the bench .  He also has one fewer year than Gilber Arenas on his contract.

They could have easily picked up a backup PG without taking on that horrible contract of Arenas .

I was originally really against the trade having seen Gilbert take terrible out of rhythm shot after terrible rhythm shot on the Wizards, but I've come around on it a little. I know the numbers don't really support my theory, but I think as time goes by he'll work out if he can stay healthy.

And those numbers don't include his "defense"...

It's still premature to call this trade a complete failure, as the combined trades have been a net positive -  primarily due to Anderson playing so well with Lewis gone and the huge upgrade of J Rich over Wince.

Poor FT shooting and dwight's foul issues continue, basically costing them 2 straight on the road

Rashard Lewis needed to leave at basically any cost.

Gilbert just doesn't have it anymore, its been over three years now since he was a high level player. Otis Smith loves him though and seems to think he can be that guy again.

Turk has also started to come back to earth the past two games, I wonder how long he'll keep up his improved overall play.

Jason Richardson seems too much like an afterthought when I've watched them post trade, he was the best piece they got back in the deal too....

I NEVER thought Arenas was that good.

I was happy when the Magic traded for him, no good (for them) could come from him being there, either on or off the court.

Rashard Lewis needed to leave at basically any cost.

So it is better to have a less effective player that has a longer contract?  Especially when the more effective player plays a position of need?

Also, since he has gone to DC, his shooting % has gone from 42% to 48% and his rebounding has gone from 4.2 to 7.9.

He is much more productive the Gilbert.  It's not even close.

Not to mention this was a separate trade from the one with Phoenix.  They could have just made that trade and kept Lewis.

Yeah, it was a bad idea by Otis Smith.

Rashard may have an equally terrible contract and was shooting poorly, but he has a history of pretty good shooting %'s. And the rebounds can be forgiven when you have a guy like Howard gobbling up so many.

Arenas literally brings nothing to the table for them (or any contending team).

This "dumb" trade allowed Orlando to go on a 9 game win streak.

Arenas has lost it, i really think that last year's incident was the final straw in his chance to have a great career. He had some great years in wash/gs but i just think that he is mentally done.

Not to mention bringing that element of surprise when he "gets the drop on ya partner".  ;)

I agree.  The Phoenix trade has helped, because Hedo is a really good fit on that team.  However, Lewis is simply a lot better than Arenas at this stage.

I think Orlando's thinking was that with Anderson and Bass, their need for Lewis was diminished.  However, Gilbert is a bigger injury risk than Lewis, has a worse contract, has the potential to be a distraction, and is at this point an inferior player.
