I have to disagree with the OP.
Lewis disappeared vs KG in the playoffs.
Gilbert still has more big game potential than Lewis right now.
Orlando had Anderson and Bass who both wanted playing time.
Its too early to see how the team chemistry shakes out.
How they do in the playoffs will be the judge.

The Richardon and Turk trade was a completely different trade from the Arenas one . They could have acquired Richardson and Turk and kept Rashard Lewis.

There was no reason for the Arenas trade , other than for Otis Smith to get his binkie in Arenas.

I am not ready to write Gilbert off.

Someone here talked about him being overrated before his injury... No, not at all.

Gilbert was a beast and was clutch.. he was one of the best in the league without question.. scoring almost at will and also very very clutch.

That was like 4 years but something tells me to not write him off yet.

I find it hard to call someone "very very clutch" when he can easily be pysched out into missing two straight FTs in a playoff game.

Everyone has missed in close games.

Gilbert was known for hitting tough shots at the end of games to keep his team in it... you can't really deny that with the results of just 1 game.

He never won a playoff series and played awful defense. He was an MVP caliber player in the mold of Iverson. One on one offensive player and a chucker.

but yes I agree with you 150%  Gilbert was a MVP caliber player for about 60% of one season.  He can put some GREAT numbers sometimes, but the guy is just a chemistry killer.....and hes also the most Selfish guy that Ive ever seen claim to be unselfish also.

Using the Vin Baker trade as an arguement for why this would be successful isnt a great idea.

Vin came here under a lot of the same circumstances that Gilbert is coming to Orlando.  In fact, Vin Baker can be used as an excuse for why they shouldnt have done this trade.  He was a guy who we were prewarned about for his off the court issues and still decided to roll the dice.  If Arenas comes over to Orlando and pulls the stuff he did in DC and the focus of that team gets torn apart, NO ONE will touch Arenas, and they can kiss Dwight goodbye.

Gilbert had another stellar night tonight going 2-7 from the field, with 2 assists and 3 turnovers.

He is only playing 15- 20 mins a game and is shooting a horrible % . He has no explosiveness anymore so just constantly jacks up contested jumpers .

Otis really screwed up on that trade .

Arenas still isn't 100% healthy.  Obviously with his surgeries he may never get back there.  But if he does he will be a tremendous asset.  I think the bottom line is he has more potential than Rashard, and both needed a change of scenary so it was a great match.  Lewis gives you absolutely nothing other than inconsistent 3 point shooting, and that's really all he will ever give.

Was thinking the same thing, his lift and movement don't look fluid anymore, at most he's just a stand still shooter now.
