Amar'e, Rose Move Into Starting Lineup In Latest All-Star Returns

Derrick Rose is, in my opinion, one of the most overrated players in the league right now.  He'll eventually be good enough to warrant the hype he's getting, but right now he's nowhere close.

He's inefficient because he doesn't get to the line (unless he's playing the Celtics), he still struggles from outside, he's not a very good passer for a point guard and he doesn't play defense.  People see his jump-thirty-feet-in-the-air-up-and-under moves and think "WHOA!  MVP!!!".  He's a freak athlete and he makes some spectacular plays, but there's more to being a dominant player than that.

Yeah, I am not a huge Rose fan. I mean, he is good and all, but he is hardly in the conversation for MVP and is really nowhere near the PG that Rondo is. Rondo's problem is he started out the year in such a dominant fashion that the only direction he could go is down. Now that the injuries appear to be behind him, maybe he can pull out a come back.

As for KG and Stoudamire, it's a tough call. KG is on a team with several other stars where Amare is the clear-cut star on his team (and in the NBAs biggest city). He has really given the Knicks a pulse again.

Stoudemire over KG, are you kidding me? Same for Rose over Rondo, on a lesser level. I guess Rondo and KG's injuries really hurt their cause but hopefully they can get their starting spots back before the end of the voting.

I really dont think you can argue Stoudemire over KG. As much as i love seeing Celtics in the All Star game, Stoudemire is by far the most deserving forward in the East.

Not even close. KG plays defense. You know the thing that wins championships? All the Knick will do is get in the playoffs which I guess is an accomplishment for them I guess. Unfortunately people get so enamored by offense.

Although I would love to see all the C's make it, I won't be terribly upset if they don't.

If anything, I think snubbing them may light a fire. Who doesn't like a PO'ed KG? Or Rondo out to prove something? Or Pierce with a chip on his shoulder?

Unfortunately, I can't see any of those three not making the team.

If the top four guards, top four forwards make it, that seems spot on. I think Bogut should be the back up C, and I also think Raymond Felton deserves a spot on that team--Amare didn't bring the knicks out of the sewer by himself, despite what many people are saying. Also, I'd rather see Celtics players rest over the All-Star break--if they deserve special recognition, than I hope KG & Rondo make the All-NBA team. And if we want to be greedy, the All-defensive teams, too.

Felton has been very good this season (18/9), but Amare is clearly the best player on that team. Felton has had suitable players around him in the past and he was never anything more than average. I always thought it was a shame because I liked him a lot out of college (and he was in the CP3 / DW drafte). I am really happy to see him playing well, but Gallinari and Chandler haven't exactly been slouches. Amare is what drives the Knicks and why there is excitement in NY again.

It is also fair to say without Felton Amare would not be doing this well. Felton at least draws some attention because he needs to be gaurded.

Don't let facts get in your way or anything. He's struggling from outside to the tune of over 37% from 3.  He's 18th in the league in PER, the highest of any point guard in the Eastern Conference. For reference point, consider that Rondo isn't even in the top 40 in the NBA in PER. He gets to the line almost 6 times a game, which puts him only behind Devin Harris, Chauncey Billups and Deron Williams in the NBA in terms of point guards. So...the stats show him to be efficient, a good outside shooter and he's top 20 in the NBA at getting to the line. Any other false claims you'd like to make?

  You have that backwards. 71% of his shots are jump shots and he makes 46% of those. Rondo has a slightly higher eFG% than Rose and that's with Rondo hitting very few threes, so his actual shooting percentage on jump shots is clearly higher on outside shots.

Either way, I do believe Rose has been better than Rondo this season by a hair. I don't have a problem with either of the two starting over KG/Rose.

He's shooting better from outside than I thought he was.  My fault on that. 

Still, he's scoring 24 points on 20 shots per game.  That's the efficiency of a volume shooter, not an elite scorer.  Look at his high-scoring games - with few exceptions, he takes well over 20 shots to get there.  Consider that his teammate, Carlos Boozer, scores 21 on 15; Dirk, another MVP candidate, scores 24 on a little more than 16; Deron Williams is scoring 22 on 15; Russell Westbrook gets 22 on 17 shots. 

My point is that his scoring average inflates his value.  He's a good player, and personally I'd have him second behind Rondo on the East at the All-Star game.  He's nowhere near the MVP-caliber player that the media is trying to advertise.
