RealGM reports that the Knicks have a deal in place with Minnesota: Anthony Randolph for a 1st round pick.

http://realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/71120/20110113/knicks_have_randolph_for_pick_deal_in_place_with_wolves/

The source article, from the New York Post, seems less definite about the deal being all but finalized.

Beause Minnesta needs another PF who needs minutes to develop.

True or false: Anthony Randolph has more upside than a projected 2011 draft pick ranging in the low teens.

I don't really know, although I suspect it's true. And that makes me wonder why Randolph has never been mentioned as a potential trade asset to net Anthony.

It makes perfect sense.

So far, they have stockpiled PGs and PFs.  Why not another?

I can completely buy this.  It sounds like something stupid they would do.  Preparing to trade Love to Boston for Davis Nate and cap filler no doubt.

Anthony Randolph has more potential than Kevin Love

He has the athletic potential, but seems to lack the necessary drive, mind set or care to reach it.

Think Gerald Green.

No surprise.

The Knicks have been able to get a first round pick from the Wolves for Randolph since the summer. This trade has always been available.

Anthony Randolph has more potential than Kevin Love

Because Love has already cashed in a lot of his potential where Randolph is still at step one.

Yup, Love is probably near his ceiling as a rebounding machine, defensive liability, and okay offensive player.

Randolph has all-nba talent, but probably not all-nba work ethic or BBIQ.

I posted this in a different thread a few days ago......

Kevin Love has a motor, he can start the fast break by
rebounding(#1 in the NBA) and can beat his man up the floor to finish fast break
good 3pt shooter(42%)(#18 in the nba)
gets to the line 6.5 times per game(top 20 in the nba)
He is grabbing 4.5ORPG(# 1 in the NBA)
And he shoots 87% from the line(#14 in the NBA)
Whats not to like about that....

I would take Love any day over Randolph . Love has already reached a lot of his potential ( best rebounder/ hustler in the league). He can still become an explosive offensive player IMO , especially when he finally plays with a good PG. Imagine Love with Rondo he would eeasily be putting up 22-25 PPG with good shoot % and being a beast rebounder.

I don't think Denver wants Randolph.  A lot of teams have soured on him; potential only gets you so many chances.

BTW, this is the Wolves' own 2011 pick, right?  Isn't it likely to be a top 5-8 pick, given their lousy record?  If so, another dumb move by Sota (if it goes through)

No, it's not their own. That pick is owed to the Clippers, although it is top-10 protected for this year.

The pick is either Utah's (top-16 protection), or Memphis' (top-14).

Absolutely true.  Randolph has had his issues with consistency but like I've said on this board before I can't think of a young big with potential for a more complete array of contributions out on the floor.  He has shown the ability to do everything but shoot 3's well in his career at various points.  He reminds me alot of Lamar Odom.

Anyways, this is all a move to get a 1st to land Melo if possible, and makes a lot of sense since they don't play Randolph.

He's so young. He should still be in college I believe. And what chances has he had?  The awful Golden State situation and with D'Antoni in New York who has proven to be a terrible at nuturing young players.

Don't see how you could say "so many chances"...

I don't mean to be an apologist because he has certainly had issues, but the guy hasn't had very good opportunities and certainly not "so many chances".  I still love his potential and with a better coach and a more supportive team structure around him he could progress how he should.  Consistent PT would do wonders.

TP, thanks.  That makes it a bit more palatable for Minnesota, although I still don't know where they'll find time for Randolph.
