Trade 1:

PHX Trades: Steve Nash, Jared Dudley, Robin Lopez
NYK Trades: Raymond Felton, Azuibuke, W Chandler

Why NY: They get Steve Nash, who will upgrade their offense immediately and also sell pretty high on Chandler and Felton so they can acquire one of the best tweener 6th men in the league (Jared Dudley), and a solid athletic young big man to put next to Amar'e.

Why PHX: They trade Steve Nash for a young, up and coming 2nd tier caliber starting PG, a solid, tough, young rotation level swingman (who is an expiring contract), and a possible franchise cornerstone in Wilson Chandler. They also get out from under Jared Dudley's 5 yr contract extension, although it costs them Robin Lopez. Lopez is the bitter pill to swallow here, but getting out from under Dudley's contract should be PHX's number 1 priority.

Trade 2:

NYK Trades: Gallinari, Eddy Curry, Anthony Randolph, Roger Mason
Den Trades: Carmelo Anthony, Renaldo Balkman

Why for NY: For the peace of mind of knowing they have Melo for the next 5 years, and the pairing of Melo/Nash for a possible extended playoff run this year, and maybe next.

Why for Denver: Because they are not able to convince a team to give up equal assets to Gallo and Randolph for a rental of Melo, and Melo will only sign with NY.

Lineup:

Nash/Douglas
Fields/Walker/Rautins
Melo/Dudley/Balkman/Shawne Williams
Stoudemire/Balkman/Shawne Williams
R Lopez/Mozgov

They're only going to have a 12 man roster, so they'll need to sign and or trade for a pg and sg immediately. But, this is a contending team.

Their offense looks like the last thing on the Knicks that needs upgrading.  If it's possible, Nash is a defensive downgrade on the Knicks.

I don't think whether or not Steve Nash makes NYK worse defensively is in anyone's mind but the fans and the pundits.

I don't think the Knicks will move Felton for anyone other than a Chris Paul-type.  I've watched a lot of Knicks games, and after some early stumbles, he seems like a great fit for that system.  His numbers are inflated a bit for sure, but 14 assists and 0 turnovers 2 games after a triple-double is no joke.

Plus I think if they can get Melo alongside Amar'e, they're going to want a PG who can be effective throughout the length of their contracts.  Nash is staying phenomenally fit but he's only going to continue to decline.

Just don't see it as an upgrade to bring in a no-defense offensive wizard PG and giving up a solid PG and Chandler, who looks like a star in the making.

It's pretty hard to figure out what a fair trade involving Nash might be, or even what sort of team might be interested.

I doubt a playoff team would be too interested, given his defensive limitations.

I doubt a rebuilding team would be too interested, given his age.

Nash seems stuck in PHX unless he requests a buyout.

In terms of value, I'd rather have Felton than Nash right now, and I'd rather have W.Chandler than Dudley as well.  NYK's roster situation is [finally] looking pretty good.  And with room to add a max FA this summer?  Look out...

I think if Nash sought to force his way out several teams would offer a package for him. Unless he forces his way out though the Suns aren't going to move him. No one will offer them a package worth what him playing out his contract is to the franchise.

True.  I think those teams 1) wouldn't offer anything PHX would want, though, and 2) wouldn't be teams Nash would want to play for (meaning, not very good teams).  Indy, Charlotte, and Toronto seem like the most likely suitors, if, as you observe, he were to want out of PHX.  Not sure he would want to go to any of those, though Charlotte would be the most interesting.

I sure do love watching him play...the guy's amazing.

Terrible terrible trade idea... And how is it that Nash, Dud, and Lopez are better than Felton, Chandler, and Azu? Not a chance there... Chandler has had flashes like playing like an all star this year. He has been playing out of his mind and at a consistent level. Felton has found his game in the Knicks offense, has been scoring and passing the ball incredibly well. Azu can provide nice defense and great athleticism when he comes back from injury. Nash is what 36 or 37? Dudley wouldnt crack the Knicks rotation and Lopez is just not good. Knicks say no to this trade in a big time hurry.

I'm not buying the "fool's-gold" numbers that Felton and Chandler have put up in NYC under D'Antoni. I'm sorry, I just can't take the Knicks seriously as a contender with Felton as the floor general. Nash is battle-tested.

Dudley wouldn't crack the Knicks rotation? Come on, man. He might not start, but he'd be the first or second guy off the bench.

Robin Lopez >>>> any other center on the Knick roster right now. If only they could transplant Turiaf's heart (and maybe Mozgov's brain) into Eddy Curry.

Azubuike is a non-factor. A guy that depends that much on his athleticism just had his knee rebuilt. Even D'Antoni has said he's nowhere near being able to play at an NBA level.

On the whole, I'd prefer Nash, Dudley, and Lopez for a title chase within the next few years. Better roster balance, an elite PG, Dudley and Lopez are the glue/hard-hat guys you need to let the stars shine.

  • Rondo = Good
The team that ought to work the hardest to get Nash is Atlanta.  The Knicks aren't a contender this year, and adding Nash wouldn't make them one.  They're well set at the PG position for the near future with Felton, they just need another star added to the mix, and maybe a 6th man type.

If the Hawks got Nash, their offense would become a lot more efficient, and they have the defenders to back him up.

Yeah because Lopez and Dudley really "glued" together those championship Suns teams... Oh wait. And Nash has consistently been "battle tested" right out of the playoffs early.

Also, Azu will never be athletic again? Didnt Amare have knee surgery...Twice... That was suppose to "end his career" and hed never recover and what not... Well he's playing like an MVP right now.

Whether you buy Chandler and Felton's play or not doesnt matter...The fact is, they are playing great ball. Nash Dudley and Lopez dont put the Knicks over the top and I dont think that trio makes them any better than they are now. Felton and Chandler will look much better next to Melo anyway.

It seems a bit off to me to discount a players stats on the Knicks and then to credit their stats on the Suns. Don't they have similar philosophies and systems?
