I don't think this is new news, I just checked twitter (BTW, best place for breaking news), and nothing from the usual suspects. It was rumored Melo said a while ago (feels like a month, maybe shorter I guess) that he would agree to an extension with NJ.

Did they present it as breaking news or as just a fact in a story?

I dunno, maybe it is legit breaking news then. ESPN rarely breaks news without the guy (Stephen A, Ric Bucher, whoever) leaking it 20 mins before, if it was even their guy who caught the whisper/quote.

So I did some more work, the only people I see corroborating this are twitter guys (not NBA guys, people like you or me who just saw it on ESPN), but if it is done, man I'm happy. Just to stop following it.

EDIT: This just from Chris Broussard:

Quote from: Chris B's Twitter
Den, NJ, Det could be working feverishly for nothing. Sources say Melo has never told anyone, not even his reps, he's willing to sign in NJ

I dont know when you watched but their "developing story" at midnight is that Melo has not indicated he will sign extension and the deal appears to be falling apart.

yea I think the host might have read it wrong (or I didn't hear it clearly)because he said camelo would sign an extension with the nets, but later in the show he said they wouldn't . I was surfing the internet at the same time so I didn't see the screen , just heard it .

Dumb move to green light this trade (if indeed he has).

Melo had all of the leverage in these trade discussions and he has used it poorly.

He can go wherever he wants to go ... if he is willing to dictate the negotiations.

I don't get it. If Denver really wants to trade him and get pieces for him then they have the power to do just that. Screw the Nets if they cant work a deal out to extend him. If I am the Nuggets I am getting what I can for him and running. This is turning into a very nasty story.

He has all the leverage assuming that he's willing to sign as a free agent for whatever salary he's able to get in the new cba. I don't think his agent will steer him towards a lesser salary.
