Again, no one has been able to shed any light on the extent of Semih's shoulder injury.

What is the likelihood he'd be unavailable by the time the playoffs roll around, anyways?

If his injury requires surgery and rehab, how likely is it that he'll be back to play out that last year on his contract next year?

Also, BTW, Erden is owed less than $500K this year, and less than $800K next year. I have no doubt that Wyc would be willing to eat that contract if the roster could be improved by doing so.

This entire issue turns on Sheed's conditioning.

Certainly, Erden, Harangody and Bradley aren't good enough defensively to help us in the playoffs.

But neither is an overweight Sheed.

I really hope Sheed comes back for the last 10-15 regular season games and the postseason.  Sheed would definitely be more valuable than Harangody or Erden, especially in the playoffs.  When compared to Davis, I have the following:

Rebounding:  Sheed > Davis
Post Defense:  Sheed > Davis
Jump Shot:  Sheed > Davis
Protect Rim on pick and rolls:  Davs > Sheed (#11 takes charges)
Post Offense:  Sheed > Davis
Experience:  Sheed > Davis
Ability to Punish the HEAT:  Sheed > Davis

I therefore conclude that if they could get Sheed back, any one of Davis/Erden/Harangody is very expendable.  Since Davis has some value and is likely to leave for a bigger contract at the end of the year, I'd say trade Davis.

I have to disagree with a lot of this. The 28 year old Rasheed Wallace is absolutely better at those things.  The 36 year old Rasheed Wallace, not so much. At this point his career Davis is a better rebounder, especially on the offensive end.  Sheed's jump shot was extremely over-rated last year as he only shot 28% for 3's.  Post defense would go to Sheed just due to his length.  With all that being said, I don't think we can even compare Sheed to Davis.  At this stage in Wallace's career, he's a 5 and nothing more.  Davis is strictly a 4. He is also the only real back up 4 we have that I trust come playoff time.  Perkins and Shaq are 100% centers and will have no business covering opposing 4's.  The way Jermaine O'Neal looks his days of playing the 4 are over too.  If Perkins doesn't come back healthy or Shaq/Jermaine get hurt, sure maybe bringing Sheed in as a 5th big may be a good option.  If everyone is healthy though, he's the 4th center on this team.  No need to give people up to bring in a 4th center.
do it

If we bring him in instead of say Semih and he can play, then sure.  But I'd rather have Jermaine.

Yes!  SHEED come back pleeeeease.  We good PFs like KG Sheed, and JO.  Baby please chill on the bench and practice your jumper, and add a threepoint shot, and learn to defend 3s, then you too can be a superstar.

The idea is for Quis to resign after the buyout. Baby and Bradley for Shane Battier and Sheed?

Sign me up.
Why would they buyout Quis? Why wouldn't they just keep him? More significantly, why would Quis leave any money on the table when he is not a top earner?

If he was bought out, there is no guarantee he returns. He can expect less minutes with Battier in town, which means he probably goes elsewhere.

Bring back Sheed!  Trade Baby and Nate!  Or just Baby.

David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

As much as many of us may not like the guy, or find him annoying, he is quite reliable when it comes to NBA leads.  Any other sport?  Not so much.

I'm not sure which one i hate more.....Sheed's addiction to shooting bricks from beyond the arc, or his penchant for slapping arms and fouling instead of going up to block the shot. Unless there are major injuries, i'd rather not see Wallace.

While I can definitely see your point about Sheed having trouble playing the '4' position, I disagree on rebounding.  Glen Davis is very much a subpar rebounder in this league.  Rasheed was partly injured in the playoffs yet still outplayed Glen, and it hasn't been that long since then.  If anything he should be rested and healthy, but I too am very skeptical about how "in shape" Rasheed is  :-\

I think Sheed would affect the chemistry. Let's leave this roster alone. It took a while for Nate to adjust, leave the team alone and let the guys get healthy.

A lot of people think Erden would get cut.  If one of them were to be cut, it confuses me to why many of you think Erden would be cut over 'Gody?  They have the same salary.  Neither will be able to contribute at all in the playoffs, so it becomes a question of next season.  Who will be more helpful?  Both of them are really barely on the fringe of being merely rotational regular season players for a contending team.  So, the only thing either of them can give us really is insurance in case of injury.  So, who do you want?  'Gody, a 3-4 tweener, insurance for KG and BBD?  Or Erden, a center, insurance for Perk, Shaq, and JO?

With the injury history of Shaq and JO, I'd hold on to Erden and cut 'Gody.  And it's easier to find serviceable 4's than 5's if absolutely necessary.

I think, if Sheed is healthy, you cut Erden. He makes no sense on the roster this season if Sheed comes on, and he needs season-ending shoulder surgery.

O'Neal-Perkins-JO-Sheed

Keeping 5 centers doesn't make any sense for anyone.

I don't want to see either Harangody or Erden cut...I think there is use for them both in the future.  If Sheed is brought back it would be for the playoffs...we know how he played the regular season next year.  I don't want to give up Marquis, as he has arguably been our best player lately!  That leaves Nate and Baby...who in all probability will not be with the celts next year anyway.  I think Davis is still extremely useful in getting to the playoffs with some home court advantage.  I don't know what the deadline is for signing to qualify for  playoff play, but if we go past that date, we will know for certain that this rumor is false.
