I think it is unlikely that NO would over-rate Rondo enough to trade Paul for him.

Who's our starting off guard? Marquis Daniels? No thanks.

Why not? The last time he played starters minutes in Indiana he averaged 14 and 5 hitting over 45% of his shots.

This really isnt a bad deal and sets up pretty nicely for the future. The first trade Ive seen on here that I would put some serious thought into. It would be real tough to see both Pierce and Rondo go, however, his would make us not only dangerous, but incredibly fun to watch.

Melo is a cancer as the nets will soon find out.

I want the c's to have nothing to do with him.

wowowowow
best player for usa team during his run playing next to bron and Wade?
Champion at high School? right??
I can live wwith him even with his share of divaness.
I am not ready to label him as cancer yet.

and for the trae, most likely NO says Rondo isnt enough
if theyre getting rid of cp they will ask for a bigger ( in size) star. I think they will not ship again on the my pg my superstar route again this close years if they lose CP

I'd definitely make this trade.

Having Chris Paul and Carmelo Anthony here in Boston for the next 6-8 years, fantastic. That would allow the C's to contend for titles for many years to come.

I think the Nuggets would make this trade too. Bringing Paul and Ray down there to play alongside Billups, Kenyon, Nene and JR + Lawson + C.Andersen gives them a legit shot at a title. They'd be even more interested if they could snare a defensive big man in the process. Maybe Jermaine O'Neal. I think that would swing the deal firmly in Boston's favour.

New Orleans wouldn't make the trade though. Not without C.Paul forcing his way out and I don't think he is prepared to do that again (yet = next summer or middle of next season he will be).

I would rather try to win this year.

The main problem with this trade is that too many fans will feel betrayed right away, and it will get even worse when we are eliminated in the second round of the playoffs.

Fans would hear the disappointment of Pierce and Ray in the press, and would likely empathize more with them than with Danny. Danny would be the guy who in one move cast away a Celtics legend and tore down a possible championship team in order to have a team that would likely be better than the alternative would have been in 2013 and 2014.

We would be giving up on a title in order to have a team that would be more competitive down the line yet not quite competitive when facing Miami.

For those who can't imagine NO trading Paul for Rondo, keep in mind that Paul seems to be leaning towards walking in 2 years, while Rondo has what looks to be a below market value contract. I'm not sure that convinces me, but it is a consideration.

I don't see why Denver would trade for Pierce and his 4 years instead of just keeping Melo and letting him walk or possibly getting something in a sign and trade that could happen if Melo wants a better contract. Pierce for $15 million a year for 4 years? Not a good idea for Denver's situation.

No way ... I would love to get Melo, but never at the price of losing Rondo and Pierce. Paul should retire as a Celtic, and we should bite the bullet to insure that happens, (it's the very least this city owes him).

Also, Rondo is already a more valuable commodity than CP3, and IMHO will end up being one of the best PG's of all-time ... I don't want to pull another "Chauncey" or "Duncan" and see him doing it on a different team.

I wouldn't be quite as upset about losing Ray, but that would be hard to swallow as well ... there are very few players alive who are "as good as gold" at the free-throw line or behind the three-point arc like Sugar Ray.

No, thank you.

Melo is not a champion. Chris Paul fits the Celtics' mold, but Melo isn't even CLOSE.

Celts have Pierce and Rondo for many years. They will resign Perkins, sign Love, and draft a starting SG. Ray off the bench! Celtics have a fine future.

This sounds great! Only problem is, this isn't NBA Live we're talkin' bout here.  ;)

2nd problem, unless this SG is a top 5 NBA stud, that Celtics team is not a title contender.

Love is a good player, but he is no KG.  I think he is a borderline all-star on a good team.  On a bad team, he will put up strong all-star numbers.  Pierce will be that much older.  A very good roll player likely. Perk is a starting defensive C.

If you are the Celtics, you almost have to make this trade.  The SG position will become split between West/Daniels/Wafer.  The Celtics would still have all the size and offensive punch needed to be a favorite to win a title.  Paul is a strong defensive player.  If Melo buys into the defense (which I believe he would on a team like the Celtics) the defense will still be a strength.

With that said, NO says no.

I think the NO pot could be sweetened in this trade.

We could add someone like Perkins to the trade (and have nothing come back) and it would still work.  We could also work it out to take on Okafor or Jack's salary to give N.O. more financial relief.

That would be about as likely as Nash buying into anybody's defense.

And would have been the same thing said about Pierce and Ray Allen before they all joined forces on the Celtics.

Do we still say that?

Exactly, why on earth would Melo try on defense in Denver?  I mean seriously his teammates don't care and the team isn't that good.  A lot of supposedly poor defenders get on much better teams and miracuously learn how to play defense.  And I know in theory you want everyone to give it there all every day, but that doesn't happen in the real world so it isn't going to happen in the spors world either.

Carmelo Anthony is a solid defender and has been for a couple of years now.

Put him alongside a guy like Kevin Garnett and friends ... and he'd be even more effective.
