Bad idea. Paul and Rondo are on the same level, as are Pierce and Melo. You can argue which of them are better, but they are all close.

But to get younger by giving up Ray Allen almost gives up on this season's chances IMO.

Sure we'd be younger, and maybe slightly more talented at two positions, but finding chemistry and a replacement for Ray (West?) would be a task.

I'd be open to a CP3 for Rondo swap, but because of the salaries, it would be rather difficult.

I think i would make this trade on paper. With the added scoring of Anthony and Paul you wouldnt really need the replacment for Allen to be a dynamic scorer. A defensive minded SG would do the trick. Now off paper im not sure i would do trade based on what PP means to the franchise. But i think the C's would be a little better off in the longterm if they did it.

Obviously, they would be better in the longterm, but without Ray and Paul, does KG stay?

I know a PG and SF will not lead you to a championship by themselves, so we would need an all-star caliber big somehow.

whatever you are smoking please pass it this way.  Paul is significantly better then Rondo and Anthony has already eclipsed Pierce and will only increase the gap going forward.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah

I must be smoking the same thing.  Because the only way Anthony has eclipsed Pierce is statistically.  I see nothing in his play that leads to a championship.  His defense is pedestrian at best.  Paul may be a better player than Rondo.  But not for this roster.

After his current contract.

With a lockout looming, this is our guaranteed chance at a title.

In two seasons, would you rather have Melo, CP3, and cap fillers...or Rondo, Pierce, maybe a "top-tier" FA (we all know who) and then guys like Ray and KG would probably be willing to come back for less money and a reduced role.

Although we get younger, it actually limits our future. Until Danny adds salary to 2012, we have options. With this trade, we are putting all of our eggs into CP3/Melo. Sure we could start trading away our expiring contracts this season (BBD/Nate) and next (KG/JO)... but things get a lot more complicated.

could someone break down this trade for me ? i'm using an old browser and the trade machine doesn't appear to me.

but this trade to get melo and cp3 isn't gonna happen though. plus I like rondo and pierce retires a celtic, I don't want those pricks on our team, they all belong to that gang of lebron.

Why mess with success?  The nucleus we have has already won a chip and came within a Perkins injury of winning last year.  I get that we're getting older and Paul and Anthony are young, but think about this trade in terms of championships.  We're not going to win this year if we make this trade just because championships are won with defense and chemistry.  Neither of the guys we're acquiring are bad character  guys, but still it takes time for teams to mesh and learn to play together, and I doubt they could become familiar enough with each other this season to win a championship.  Additionally, both Paul and Anthony are defensive downgrades from the guys they would replace.  It's true that we'd be better going forward, but would we be a championship team down the line?  It's possible, but look at the rest of our team. Garnett's getting older, Perk just had a major injury, and both O'Neals will probably be out of the league in 3 years.  It's a legitimate question whether we'll have a good enough supporting cast around paul and anthony to win a championship in 2 years.  I'd rather have a good chance at a championship now and suck in 3-4 years than be a top 4 seed now and gamble on anthony and paul improving on defense and our old/injured supporting players remaining effective.

Melo is a cancer as the nets will soon find out.

I want the c's to have nothing to do with him.
