A Ball Movement Inspired Trade Idea

Outgoing: Nate Robinson, Glen Davis, Avery Bradley and Von Wafer.
Incoming: Boris Diaw, DJ Augustin and Derrick Brown.

Why for Boston: We sacrifice offensive explosiveness/aggressiveness to gain steadier players (Diaw and Augustin) who move the ball and play smarter in general. Diaw's superior mid-range J, 3-pt range, superior passing/ballhandling make him a better fit for us than Davis, while his defensive versatility and inside/outside game allow him to play a similar role.  He's not really an option at the 5 like Davis, but we've got so many 5s that it doesn't really matter.  Augustin's a better decision maker and floor-manager than Nate, not a threat to explode for 15 in 5 minutes like Nate, but solid and very capable offensively. Derrick Brown is a long, athletic combo forward for bit duty off the bench and some potential for more.  

Why for Charlotte: On a team as impotent offensively as Charlotte, Diaw and Augustin's deference hasn't done much good.  Robinson and Davis give them assertive offensive players who will attack aggressively and score in bunches.  Ditto Wafer if they want to keep him.  Bradley gives them an upside guy to wait on with Tyrus Thomas.  They also save quite a bit of money with this trade.

If Perk comes back healthy, JO continues to hold up health-wise (and to some extent if Luke shows continued progress on his shot), I'd go along with this deal. 

Not too sure Charlotte makes this move though.  BBD and Bradley have some upside to entice Charlotte but I'm not sure that's enough to prompt them to give the C's better bench players to wrap up the title for this year.

Would you do Nate and Baby for Diaw (provided West was healthy)?  Makes it more favorable to Charlotte.

The best player in this scenario is Diaw by a mile.  He makes a whopping $9 million though...

BBD + Nate = $7.2 million.

Both teams' roster is at 15 players...

But just noticed that Diaw is starting over Ty Thomas...

Not sure Charlotte does the deal, but MJ may be too cheap to keep Diaw.  If I were Danny, I'd keep calling.  Is it worth paying Diaw's salary on a team like Charlotte this season, especially with Ty Thomas there?

I don't see them giving up Augustin though.  Getting Henderson would be a stretch.

I figure that Charlotte would try to extort the C's to take a bad contract (i.e. Najera) with Diaw, or want a pick in return as well.

BOth of which are probably worth it, provided the bad contract doesn't go past 2012.

Which is how/why I put Najera and Henderson in my version.

Looks like the Cats are playing decent ball these days though...might stand pat.
