Asked if Sunday's 96-87 loss to New Orleans at the Pepsi Center was his last game with Denver due to numerous reports about a possible imminent exit, the forward said, "Not at all. Not at all. Not at all. Not at all. Just not at all.''
...Pressed for a time frame during which Anthony doesn't believe he will be traded, he said, "I'm just saying I don't see it happening right now.''
This week?
"No,'' Anthony said.
This may be the least interesting blockbuster in a long while, and if Denver or Melo scuttle the trade they'd be doing the Nets a favor.
I don't see New Jersey even making the postseason - not with a 10 win record, three new starters to integrate, a coach that rarely keeps things simple, the most passive "franchise" center in the league, no back up center, and a power forward rotation of Kris Humphries and Travis Outlaw.
That means a first title push in 2011, when Billups will be thirty-five and, Hamilton who's fading faster, thirty-four in February, don't add a late lottery pick because that's headed to Denver. (And I like both players.)
Meanwhile, the Nuggets fall out of the playoff picture. (Shouldn't they be trying to bring back a passable small forward fill in?) And Detroit clears cap space to misuse later, treads water, and gives Kuester another player - Murphy - to take minutes away from Monroe and Daye.
P.S. Also it's my understanding that if the trade - as currently rumored - can't be pulled off early tomorrow morning, it would have to wait until after New Jersey's Wednesday game in Phoenix. Otherwise travel time, physicals, etc. would leave the Nets with only five players.
