I think your absolutely right. I consider myself a huge Rondo fan, but I have to say I feel a bit dissapointed with his development this season.
Wow.
Wow, What? You can't convince me that Rondo is doing anything right now that he couldn't do by the end of the season last year. He's averaging 4 more assists than last season, but he's playing more passively to get them.
No, I probably can't convince you of that since you seem to think that having an assist average that's among the best of all time is some kind of parlor trick. His running of the offense has been better than anything I've seen from any pg in the league, and we're shooting better than any other team in the league under his direction. Before his injuries came up he was widely considered an MVP candidate. It's hard to see any improvement at all.
I'm not saying Rondo sucks I'm just saying he's the same player he was last season, in my mind. The same weaknesses he had last season are here this season, just as exploitable. In the play-offs teams will try to force him to take the scoring role and right now any shot other than a lay-up is a bad shot for him.
First of all, it's not as easy to exploit Rondo as people claim or else this team would never get to the ECF. Last year opposing teams exploited it to the extent that we lost our starting center and still came within a few points of winning the title. Cleveland was a top 6 defense last year and they exploited Rondo to the point that they were unable to stop anything he did. Orlando, an even better defensive team, exploited Rondo so well that they almost got swept by us.
Oh, and for the record, Rondo's jump shot seems to be quite a bit improved from last year, to the tune that he's been hitting outside shots at a rate well above the league average I'd think that a "huge fan" of Rondo like yourself would have noticed this.
