One trade that works money-wise and passes the sniff test is BBD, Perkins for Garcia, Casspi, Jason Thompson.

Do you pull the trigger on that trade?

Keeping in mind that Ainge is looking to keep significant flexibility in 2012, I think this trade becomes more realistic if you remove Perk, and add JO, Bradley and the Cs 2011 1st rounder.

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=2e5mjb6

Both sides would have to consider it per the following:

Assuming the options for both Casspi and Bradley are picked up for 2012, the Cs add around $8mil in salary in 2012 via this trade. However the C's will have to pay Baby or lose him for all or next to nothing this summer, which makes this cap differential much smaller. If he stays at $5mil per, it dents that space. If not, it's a significant lose of talent. Then If you consider the pay scale of a low 1st this year in 2012, add another $1.25. So we're talking a difference in 2012 of $2-3mil.

Under current cap conditions (gulp), they'd still have enough for a max deal in 2012 while resigning Thompson, leaving them with a core of Rondo (1), Garcia (2/3), Pierce (3), Casspi (3), Thompson (4) and said max free agent (D Howard?). Not what Danny currently has in mind, but pretty interesting.

The Kings make the trade to 1) resign Baby to play the 4 for the future, 2) have someone other than Delambert mentor Cousins (namely O'Neal, a respected vet), and 3) shed Garcia's salary which further frees them to pay the young core they're developing.  In the process they lose one guy they like (Casspi) and one they can essentially take or leave (Thompson). They then trade Landry for a valuable piece before the deadline.

I like Thompson -- i think he would grow tremendously playing with Rondo. Casspi's an excellent fit. So is Garcia, if expensive. It'd concern me to lose Baby at this point in the season, but the Cs certainly get a lot in return.

Not arguing for it -- personally i'd hesitate under the circumstances because i really like Baby's energy and defense, and Thompson is a risk -- but like i said, it's at least interesting for both parties. Wyc also saves $2.4mil in tax money this year... which is nice.

  • Rondo = Good
When I read this thread's title I thought the Knicks were looking to trade Landry Fields for some reason.

"Fielding" offers for "Landry."

I did too actually the first time  :)

And clicked cause that would be crazy.  Find me a better player who makes less than $ 500k.

What about Baby + Wafer for Carl Landry and a 2nd round pick?

I guess the Kings will get a lot of better offers for Casspi than the combination of rookies/minimum players Boston can put over the table. In fact, Kings would likely package Casspi with a long contract to make room for future pieces. That won't fit in Danny's plans for 2012.

Landry is an expiring contract, as Baby, and Wafer's contract isn't guaranteed until january 10th. Even if this trade was made after Wafer's contract becomes guaranteed, the Maloofs wouldn't lose lots of money, and both Baby and Wafer are talented players.

I think Landry is the best player, and the Kings 2nd round pick will be as valuable as Boston's first round pick. This trade may be lopsided, but right now Baby and Wafer are playing on national TV (and most of the time doing well), so the Kings might think different and bite.

Landry would mesh well with the O'Neal brothers, he's a great offensive player and used to play great for Adelman in Houston.

If the Kings say to me something like "We want BBD and Perkins" my response is something like "Ok let's discuss Tyreke Evans and this year's unprotected #1"

If the worst team in the league wants key players from the best team in the league they should start with their best players. Not their bench guys.

eh...I think Casspi, Thompson, and Garcia are pretty good players, all 3.

I think BBD and Perkins are both pretty good players too.

I think this year this trade doesn't make sense. But, do we ever see BBD as a legit starter on a team that can go places? Can Thompson do a lot of the same stuff BBD does (not as well), but also add rebounding and length? I think so. Can Casspi be a legitimate starter at the 3 for a good team?

I think value-wise based solely on talent, the trade is pretty even. I also think that fit-wise and chemistry wise, it doesn't make any sense for us now.

I just don't see Perk going out in a deal, period. I think the scenario above i mentioned is far more likely.

Also think Landry could a a factor if Baby goes out in the deal. He's made it clear he's not resigning, yet I don't see Danny paying him either so I'd prefer the deal with the same principles we've been discussing.
