Well, I wouldn't rule out 10 days.  I don't necessarily want to see it happen.  But it seems to me that if this was the playoffs, he'd probably be playing tonight.

Granted, it's not the playoffs.  However, we all know that the C's use extreme caution under these circumstances.

Having had this kind of injury, you can walk fine; but any time you try and push off you come up limping. It really impacts you ability to accelerate and your explosiveness. Two things that KG has only recently regained. Not saying he won't get it back; but just that it is easy to injure again and it can take some time to be 100%, so better safe than sorry.

I give him the full two weeks regardless of what he wants to do. No need to rush him, let him fully recover and get some extra rest.
Agreed -- I don't care about a couple of regular season games in January. It's the playoffs that matter and KG hasn't been a healthy guy over the last 18 months ... best to be extra cautious in bringing him back.
Agreed, we have a frontcourt that can withstand any team. Jermaine, Shaq, Davis, Erden and Harangody. Besides, this is a huge opportunity for Harangody to step up which I would really like to see.
Unlikely since there's no reason to believe Harangody will get increased minutes.  KG simply replaces JO as the frontcourt man on the injured list.
Considering that Jermaine is still adjusting and Harangody already somewhat knows the system better than JO, Harangody might actually get more minutes. It is true that Harangody is undersized and is a huge defensive liability but he brings hustle and energy that JO never can. Jermaine would definitely get larger minutes but I'm pretty sure that Doc would consider giving more minutes to Harangody.

He always feels good. Give him as much time off as is possible. All big 3 are 1 misstep from some sort of crash. The goal is the playoffs in good shape. I don't think we'll want to keep pace with Miami because it will take them that long to get in real sync. If we chase them it would mean straining the Big 3. If the seed goal is #1 in the EC we'll be a tired bunch by end of season. If I were Miami or Orlando I would make sure we get pushed beyond our ability. They know we're an aging team but in a 7 game series we have the odds in our favor. If I'm Doc I limit their minutes and keep sight of the big picture. If we're 2nd or 3rd seed no big deal. In the meantime we continue to develop what we have.

I'll second that. I've struggled with these on and off for years.

The frustrating thing is that you can feel pretty good walking around, but there's no way to know whether it's better without testing it (by pushing off). If you test it and it pops again, then you are back to square one.

I'd like to see Luke Harangody get a few minutes here and there over the next few games.

He is too big of a liability in man-to-man D to be matched up against an offensive threat ... but he could give some useful minutes against less gifted offensive big men.

He never should have been matched up against Charlie Villanueva last night. That was a shockingly bad decision by Doc.

There's no way that Luke Harangody is getting more minutes than Jermaine O'Neal unless JO gets hurt.

The fact that Doc has gone with lineups of Nate, Rondo, Daniels, PP, and Glen Davis at times this year tells you all you need to know about what Doc thinks of Luke's ability to contribute.  Let's also keep in mind that Jermaine has immediately passed Erden on the depth chart, and Erden was someone Doc clearly thought more highly of than Harangody.

Harangody's minutes are unrelated to JO. They depend upon KG. JO is backing up the 5, Gody the 4. Erden is the guy who lost minutes to JO at the 5.

That is true, but my point simply was Garnett's injury was related in the increase of Gody's minutes.

Since the O'Neals never play together (http://www.nba.com/statistics/plusminus/plusminus_sort.jsp?pcomb=2&season=22010&split=9&team=Celtics&pager.offset=0) Gody is almost guaranteed minutes until KG returns, even if he continues to fire bricks.

Any updates on KG? Is anybody not worried about how he's doing and how he'll come back from this?

Yeah it's supposedly nothing major but I'm not buying any of it until I see him hit the court and moving fluidly.

I don't know, I guess I am not sure I buy all this.  Last year he only missed 10 games (what is that 3 weeks) but he wasn't KG when he came back, he was a gimpy shell of himself.  I will continue to be nervous about this until I see not just him back on the court but rather him back and playing like KG.  I don't doubt his toughness and desire but that wasn't enough to overcome a gimpy leg last year.   I am not sure why, but I just don't think they are telling us everything.

But the injury last season was to the same knee coming off surgery. Medically, I'm sure he was clear to play when he did. Mentally, probably not. Also, KG is huge on his offseason workouts. 2009 was the first year ever that he didn't get to do it, so I think he really wasn't in as good shape as he usually is.

In 2008 when he suffered the abdominal injury, he was back in a few weeks and once he shook off the rust, he looked like the same player.

As long as this injury is to the calf, whatever timetable they put him on is fine by me. Every indication points to this being a relatively minor injury. I'll go with that until there is reason to believe otherwise.
