The Bobcats may try to gain cap relief by offering Boris Diaw to the Magic in exchange for the expiring contract of Jason Richardson.

Diaw has a $9 million player option for next season, while Richardson's $14.4 million deal will come off the books this summer

This would be a good trade for the Magic. They already have Reddick and Quiten Richardson to backup the sg and sf positions. Arenas has really struggled coming off the bench in the first 4 games so moving him into the starting sg spot would help.

Diaw would give them a pretty skilled stretch 4 that they lost with Rashard Lewis. He is also a very good passer .

If they're moving Richardson I'd bet dollars to doughnuts it is for more than Diaw.

You're talking J Rich+pieces for Stephen Jackson and Diaw or something.

Terrible trade.

The Magic need a backup C.  Not another 6'8 PF.

Richardson on the other hand was averaging 19 points a game and shooting over 40% from the outside before he was traded.

And he is the expiring contract.

well after looking at the trade machine there would have to be another player going to the Magic. Nazr Mohammad might make sense since he is in the last year of his contract and I dont see the bobcats resigning him as they are trying to cut salary.

so Diaw and Mohammed for Richardson would be a pretty good deal

New Roster

PG: Nelson / Arenas / Duhon
SG: Arenas / Reddick
SF: Hedo   / Q Richardson
PF: Bass   / Diaw
 C: Howard / Mohammed

That is a very balanced and talented team . Mohammed would be a good backup to Howard .

The C's are still a tougher defensive team ( when healthy) and would win in a 7 game series

Trading Jason Richardson for Diaw/Nazr would be a step backwards for the Magic. Having just Arenas/Redick at SG will leave them very vulnerable at that position defensively.

Diaw isn't playing much better than Rashard.

And they would have made a trade to improve there offense with two struggling older players.

I've said this before, but this is the deal (if any) the Magic should be looking at for J-Rich:

J-Rich for Stephen Jackson one of Nazr Mo or D Diop

The Bobcats could even work in Daniel Orton if it would grease the wheels for Nazr over Diop.

I couldn't believe this when I saw the blurb on RealGM. I clicked the link, thinking it was Diaw for Quentin Richardson (and parts).

JRich is every bit the athlete Vince Carter is, but a better outside shooter, more durable, and less of a wuss. Trading him for Diaw would be a horrible trade for Orlando. I'd love it if it happened.

I agree on both points. Qrich seems like the odd Richardson out. TP

Also, trading JRich makes Gilbert being the awesome 6th man useless. Now your expecting Diaw to contribute off the bench? Overpaid role player. Sure, do this trade. It'll ruin their team. I want them to get better enough to beat Miami, b/c those 2 will meet in the 1st round. And even though Orlando beat us(barely and we were down half the team) a playoff Celtics squad with an entire rotation will sweep Orlando this year

A scary trade would be Capt Jack and Diaw for JRich and filler

I would move Nelson and Reddick for Diaw and Nazr if that worked financially...

Arenas/Duhon/Williams
Richardson/Richardson
Turk/(Richardson or Diaw)
Bass/Diaw/Anderson
Howard/Nazr

Use a nine man rotation. The second unit brings a pretty good defensive team to the floor. Adds size, helps defense, provides for more offense starting arenas.

The Diaw for J-Rich rumour happened hours after the trade went through and reportedly the Magic had absolutely no interest in it. Charlotte offered, Orlando rejected. The rumour is just doing the circuit again ... pay no heed to it.

Jason Richardson has far more value to the Magic than Boris Diaw offers.

I love Stephen Jackson. But if I'm the Magic, I'd take my chances w/ Jason Richardson running around with the elite SG's of the East then Stephen Jackson.

I liked the idea of the Magic targeting Troy Murphy, who seems tailor made for their power forward.

I think Stephen Jackson is less valuable to Orlando now that they have Gilbert Arenas and Hedo Turkoglu on the team. Two players who will have the ball in their hands a lot + Dwight and Jameer.

A low efficiency high usage player like Jacks doesn't hold as much value for the Magic now as he did a few weeks ago.

Diaw doesn't help them and Jason Richardson does.  I don't think that would be a good move for the Magic at all.  If they did it I would be very happy because J-Rich was a clear upgrade over Vince Carter IMO.

Since J-Rich was just traded don't the Magic need to wait for a certain amount of time before they trade him?
