Johnny Depp
Two questions:
1) Is your love for Johnny Depp tainted or encouraged by the fact that probably his most memorable role (though flawlessly executed) is the product of a Disney World ride, and has gone for 4 increasingly bad sequels?
2) Is anyone else's favorite Johnny Depp role Mort Rainey in secret window, even though he was the 2nd best performance in the movie? (after John Tuturro)
Addendum: Actually, easily my favorite Depp role was Rauol Duke. But I loved secret window.
EDIT: Props though for listing Nathan Fillion, even though we both know you really love Captain Malcolm Reynolds.
I'd like to add Joss Wheadon to my list, but if I did, I feel like somewhere google would book me a flight to comicon and make my girlfriend breakup with me.
I don't know if most memorable is exactly the same thing as most visual and marketed. Edward Scissorhands was awesome.
Edward Scissorhands is one of my all-time favorites. I was also a jump street fan back in the days, so I could get behind Depp.
I am also a Joss Wheadon fan.
But my real list:
Jon Stewart. Others have explained fine.
V.S. Ramachandran. Love his lectures and his books. The brain is bizarre and we are much different than we think we are. All it takes is some severed connections to turn our world upside down and to deeply challenge our sense of self -- and to make it into one of his books.
Thom Yorke. He is clearly a jerk and seems to know it. But he is a brilliant musician who is serious about his art.
David Gergen. My favorite news network commentator. Doesn't pander to any ideology, probably because he is an academic and has worked in presidencies on both sides. Focuses on possible implications and potential strategies instead of focusing on how he can make someone into a hero or a villain.
The main character from Breaking Bad. I have only watched season one so far (Netflix), but what's not to love.
Richard Dawkins. His popular science books are incredibly well written and insightful. I was also impressed with his earnestness in person. Though I have disagreements with some of his generalized statements about religion (no need to lump all the religious in with those who undermine science) his prose is beautiful and inspiring.
