Getting Gerald Wallace

The Bobcats have begun the process of shopping Gerald Wallace.  While the Celtics certainly aren't the ideal trade partner, they have some pieces that could intrigue the Cats and Gerald Wallace would certainly look good in green.

I'd propose Perk, Nate, Daniels and Bradley (or preferably a 2011 pick) for Wallace, Livingston and Kwame.

Perk would give them the rock in the middle they've missed since they had to trade Chandler away to get under the tax.  Nate would give them some desperately needed scoring pop (and shooting) off the bench.  Daniels would give them a versatile guy to help keep the ball movement hopping in Larry Brown's offense.  Bradley would give them a nice long-term prospect in the backcourt (on a team bereft of such prospects).

For the Celtics, Wallace eats up all the minutes behind Pierce and Ray (about 25 per night), his role to finish Rondo feeds, guard the other team's best wing, rebound and draw fouls.  He'd also be available to swap in as the back-up 4 if a team like New York or Miami goes small.   To mitigate the loss of Perk, the team gets Kwame to fill in as the 5th big (their intent at the beginning of the season).  They nail Livingston (a salary dump from Charlotte) to the end of the bench as the emergency back-up 1.

Kind of a steep price to pay just to get a player coming off the bench isn't it? Also, remember that Perk can at least be somewhat a man-in-the-middle of the future, as well as the fact that he needs to be our starter when he returns. Don't really want to trust our playoffs on the health of the oneals come playoff time.

We're fine. And if you presume Gerald Wallace backs up Ray and Pierce (btw, Wallace is a SF/PF, not SF/SG), it still means we can't run an entire bench unit successfully, aka more minutes for starters.

As currently constructed, once healthy, we're fine. I'm worried about the size of our backup 3 (Quisy), but there really isn't a PJ Brown out there. Unless it's a minimum contract signing, we aiin't getting it.

Capt Jack, Kwame and Najera for BBD,JO,Quis and Wafer



Perk comes back, BBD would lose all his minutes. Kwame can rebound and Najera can hit the Big Baby jumpers plus hit 3s and play SF. Biggest part is now we have a true 6th man that's not a streakshooting undersized guard. Stephen Jackson can play gritty D, hit back to back 3s, and handle the ball. Plug him in with the Rondo and Big 3 and we can play small ball with NYC and Miami. I'd much rather have him than Gerald Wallace who suddenly thinks he can hit 3's(shooting below %20)

So really, I'm not looking for the Celtics to make any roster moves at the moment.  Just get healthy.  Let the other teams make desperation moves; we're not desperate.

I don't think Charlotte would be interested in that package.

I think they'll require someone with more star talent (likely potential) in order to part with Gerald Wallace ... rather than a talented role player like Perkins.

I gave a tommy point for reading my mind.  We need health and an upgrade at one bench spot.  With injuries if luke can continue to improve like last game maybe he'll be that last bench guy for us.

While I love Gerald Wallace, there is no where to play him on this squad.

I do not want to trade half our bench and our defensive rock for a guy who will be coming off the bench himself (although more talented). Basically we are trading away depth which is something we desperately need, for more talent which we already have a ton of (maybe the most in the NBA).

That said, if Pierce had walked for some reason this summer Gerald Wallace would have been the perfect replacement.
