Why do some fans have to get so bent out of shape about this is beyond me. This is a sporting event.

I loved it.

 8)

Co-sign.

The Boston Old Farts had to out-D'Antoni the Knicks in MSG in a regular season game and the captain went a bit over the top when he nailed the game-winner?!  Abso-frikkin-lutely! I've watched it repeatedly today .. even if Amar'es shout counts it was still an outward display of competitiveness that I don't think we would have seen this time last year.  Gimme some more ..

As for Larry not doing it? Maybe not the airplane-ing round half-court but I think he would've been pumping his fist or F-bombing Amar'e for falling for the "Paul Pierce Step-Back Game-Winning ISO PlayTM" ..

Stay classy, San Diego. Hello, Baxter? Baxter, is that you? Bark twice if you're in Milwaukee. Is this Wilt Chamberlain? Have the decency to say something.

Just to be sure, people are complaining about Pierce celebrating a game winner when the Celtics patriarch used to light up a victory cigar during games he thought were in the bag?

Please, if anything Celtics tradition embodies in-your-face "classless" moments.

I loved every second of it.

BTW, you should stay away from soccer. The things they do after they score a goal would absolutely MORTIFY you.

Celtics are a basketball team, not a golf club.

Did you see the way Spike Lee was celebrating after Amare hit that 3?? Are you going to call him without class??

uh, yeah.

spike lee is one of the all-time, low-class, no-class, loud-mouth, low-lifes in the history of classless low-lifes.

Tenn_smoothie, what are you quoting? When did I call Spike Lee classless?

I don't like to label players as "cowards", "classless" etc....there are plenty of people on this blog who will do it at the drop of a hat.

i don't like it either, never have liked it - Celtics don't act like that !!

paul pierce has always had that LA street mentality inside and though KG & Ray have forced Pierce to mature some, he will always have that street dog in him - which is why he says things he shouldn't and pulls stupid stunts on the court like last nite.

don't think you'd ever see, Bird, Havlicek, Cowens or Russell or KG for that matter pull any of Pierce's antics.

Um, yes they do. And Yes, Bird taunted opposing players and teams too.  Maybe not the exact same way Pierce did, but he did nonetheless.  Stop acting like Bird is all high and mighty.  He did some of what you call "classless" stuff too.  I don't consider it classless though.

yeah, Bird talked - a lot of the players talk - what i don't like is the silly displays like - for the third time - flying around the court like an airplane. that is an effort to draw attention to yourself and it looks ridiculous. Bird never flew around the court like an airplane and he never ripped his jersey off in front of the entire arena after being ejected (Pierce vs Indiana 2005).

your argument is to equate everything. but all on-court behavior is not equal. some things are about being competitive, about getting an advantage and some are simply about drawing attention to yourself or just wanting to be the biggest mouth on the floor.

personally, i played in college and never said one word - i had guys talk to me, grab, push, cheap elbows, etc. i always just felt like being silent and responding with a basket in their face or a great defensive stand or tough rebound was the ultimate way to deal with somebody who had a mouth or was a dirty player ........ plus, if you don't say anything, they don't know what you might be thinking. just my perspective.

Guys I'm the biggest Larry Bird fan there is and worship the man but I can't believe you all think he wouldn't fly around the court like an aeroplane when there is footage of him doing exactly that after hitting a game winning shot in the "Larry Bird A Basketball Legend" DVD!! Funny the selective memories of some, I know it was out of character for him to do that but it definitely happened. Just check out your copies...I'm sure you would all have one being true Celtics fans :-)

He did it once, now Pierce has too...lets move on, nothing to see here!!

Cuz it was an incredibly exciting moment, punctuated with some appropriate celebration. It's a moment where Pierce can really enjoy his job -- its a tough season. It also makes it more fun for the fans watching...unless you're one of those people who want to treat sports as "all-business"... which its not. Its a game, pretty much the literal antithesis of business.

Knicks better be more concerned with those the two 747's coming into MSG.Pierce was only a byplane compared to what Lebron&Wade will be flying up/down with come friday night.
