are you kidding me?

not a fan of that pick at all. i know they need offensive linemen but i feel like those guys are gonna be available later. the defensive player quality on the board won't.

heck, this guy would have most likely been available at the 33rd pick from my understanding.

odd pick.

there was some thought he'd be gone before NE picks again, and the DE quality should be pretty deep through middle 2nd round.

its a solid pick, based on everything I've read leading up to the draft.

meh.

I feel like there were multiple area's of concern on the defense you could have gotten better value addressing with that pick.

Side note: does this signal that matt light is not going to be a patriot? that would be a silver lining, he's been bad the last few years.

love his scouting report (light) "struggles against speed rushers" because so many outside rushers norwdays are slow footed power guys ;)

Btw, Mortensen is reporting that the Giants really liked Solder, too.

Prince is great value here, in my opinion.  Plus, it pushes more OTs down the board to the Bears, hopefully.

oh absolutely.

It would have been a huge risk for the pats and not really address a huge area of concern given mccourty's development but could you imagine a Mccourty/prince combo prowling the sidelines for the pats for the next 3-5 years at least?

would have been sweet to watch

I like the Solder pick.  Incredibly durable and productive offensive lineman with still a ton of upside.  He reminds me a lot of Vollmer, who was also considered a "project" but was arguably their best tackle halfway through his rookie year.

Like I said earlier, I was not sold on Jordan, and really think that was all a smokescreen, but you get really good value for O-linemen at this point in the draft.

yea, I like the potential he has, i just question if we needed that tackle potential as much as a bunch of other positions that were avialable.

Heck i would rather have gotten a guard.

mabey bowyer will continue to fall and they'll take a flyer. I know he has knee concerns but man, he's a stud. You'd think given his age and the way knee injuries aren't as fatal to careers as they used to be if they'd take a shot

Interesting.  Not what I was expecting.

Can I just save this, and repost it next year, and the year after, and the year after.

Belichick just keeps things so tight in there, no one ever gets his picks right.

Here's some comments about Solder.

Quote
@tomecurran When Von Miller was asked who was the best tackle he faced in college : Nate Solder, and he went up against Williams and Okung.

Quote
Schefter: Multiple teams really liked Patriots first-round pick Nate Solder, some as the draft's top OT.

Parcells had him as the #1 OT in the draft.

He has allowed one sack in the last two years, and only one holding penalty. And lastly, he had had multiple OL coaches in his time at CU, having to learn new schemes every year is no good. Some time with Dante S. will do wonders for him.

A good amount of pass rushers have slipped, there will be somebody for them at 28 or 33. Also, remember the Pats love Jermaine Cunningham, who had a good rookie year.

But here is the thing.  The reason these other guys are available is because they aren't that great.  Top line 3-4 ends and pass rushing linebackers are incredibly hard to come by.  They don't fall to the mid or late first round unless there is a major issue with them.

If Jordan was the player people are making him out to be, he would have been gone in the top 5 picks, because behind QBs, there is no position more prized in the NFL.  But he doesn't go high, because he isn't that great, and probably is not significantly better than guys who will be available in the second round, or the guys the Pats already have.

We see this every year where everyone gets up in arms because the Pats did not take the big name d-end, but the majority of them have not done much (I know, Matthews, but he is the exception...and who knows if he could have found as good an HGH hookup in NE).
