I believe the Pats trade up this year.  I think they send the 17th and 6oth to Dallas for the 9th to ensure they get Jordan.  Then, the 28th they spin for a 1st in 2012 and a 3rd this year.  With the 33rd (1st pick in the second), they go back to basics, best player available.

Keep an eye on Stanzi, the QB from Iowa late in the second or with their first third.

I just read this on line, Pats will pick six times (if they keep them) before the JETS make their second pick.

Heck, the Pats will probably trade 6 times before the Jets make their second pick....

Mike Reiss and walterfootball seem to think the Pats will take Mo Wilkerson with #17.

I'd be fine with that.

Kiper had them taking him too.  Says that he would be a Top 10 pick next year if he had stayed in school another year.

From PFT:

Quote
How about this for some Worldwide Leader-on-Worldwide Leader crime?

ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reported earlier today that the New England Patriots are trying to trade up to No. 9 with the Dallas Cowboys, the Pats targeting Cal defensive end Cameron Jordan.

According to both Michael Smith of ESPN and Adam Schefter of ESPN, the trade isn’t happening.

Smith, appearing on SportsCenter, explained that the Patriots don’t value “five-technique” defensive ends enough in this draft to trade into the top ten. Such a move likely would’ve cost New England a first- and second-round pick.

Schefter’s report/refute of Mort’s report is even stronger:

“Any proposed Cowboys-Patriots trade will not happen,” Schefter just tweeted.

It sounds like the Cowboys “leaked” the rumor to Mortensen, and Mort took the bait.

I, for one, was happy to read this.

too bad Oakland finished 17th worst. 2010 they were 8th worst.  2009 they were 7th worst. 2008 they were 4th worst.

Smart trade for Oakland.  Seymour is a beast.  I'd rather pay him to play on that DL then a guess at #17

Yeah, I think Belichick gambled a bit and lost on that one.

To his credit though, I have a feeling he had no interest in giving Seymour the extension he was going to want, so keeping him around beyond that one season wasn't really an option for them.

Your right, don't think they could of paid everybody. I think it was more or less a take your pick, Seymour or Wilfork.  Davis took Seymour.

I'm just never a fan of giving up players for picks that are 2 years away.  You don't get value til you make that pick, and the pick in itself is a gamble, when you already had a given (Seymour).  Give me a proven body if I'm dumping him and can't pay him, instead of a pick that is 2 years down the road.

Those aren't smart trades.  Thats not Bill's style right there.  But I do see what he was going after, most likely a top 5 or top 10 Raider pick.

You haven't said it that often the past decade, but it was a smart move on Davis' part.  He had no line to speak of, and Seymour changed that immediately.  He also gave up a first round pick in a lockout year, where the player drafted might not even see his playbook til September if at all (judge ruling may have changed all that).  Smart move by the 80 yr old jumpsuit.

Smarter trade for NE.

The issue was Ty Warren missing last year.  I believe he chose to attend college instead of rehabbing/surgery on his hip, ence the year on the DL.  Had he been active, we would not have been talking so much about the former #93, who, BTW, was my favorite player and still is one of my faves.

Picking 17 allows them to probably spin the 28 for a pick next year.  Then they turn right around and pick 33rd anyway.  I just read this on line, Pats will pick six times (if they keep them) before the JETS make their second pick.

If NE lands a young stud it will look real smart (I think we trade down for more picks).  I have a big issue with the timing.  We've had to wait 2 years to get something back from one of our dominant line players, ever.  The guy is a man beast on lines and changes games (and gameplans).  Yet were 2 years down the road with nothing to show from him yet?  I hate that.  Would of rather showed him the money and had him on the lines the past 2 years to see how far he could of taken us, or given him up for a proven body.

I thought we only had 5 picks ?  Is it 6 or 5 ?

For 2012?  I believe the Pats only have 5 total which leads me to believe they'll try and move around to acquire some additional picks for next year.

This year, the Pats are loaded for picks.

I think Cam Newton is going to be a pretty huge bust.  We'll see, I guess, but I don't see him as #1 pick worthy.

No doubt.  What was it, a late 1st, a 2nd, a 4th, next year's 1st, and next year's 4th?

That's a trade you've got to make all day if you're Cleveland.  That's potentially five starters.
