Why is KG grabbing so few offensvie rebounds this season?

           DRPG   ORPG   RPG
KG         8.5        1.1        9.6
Pau        8.0        3.6       11.6

That's a big difference indeed. Offensive rebound is pretty valuable.

By the way, KG's DRPG is #3 in the league, while his ORPG is #102.

What's the problem in your opinion?

Might have to do with him taking more jumpers away from the basket.  If he played more near the rim his ORPG might be higher.

  He gets back on defense?

Also, Pau plays 5-6 more minutes a game than KG and there are about 10 more total rebounds a game in LA games than Boston games.

It might not look it from those numbers but KG's the better rebounder of the two players this year. He gets a higher percentage of available rebounds when he's on the court than Pau does.

Yup the way our spacing and offense runs KG is almost always in the top right of the key. I do wish he would go into the post a bit more.

We shoot 51% as team?

KG sets a lot of screens on the perimeter giving up inside position to his own man a lot of the time.

I don’t care about KG’s offensive rebounding. He’s never been a great offensive rebounder. IF he can stay elite on the defensive boards and Perk/JO/Shaq can go cater the offensive boards… that’s all good with me.

Because the number one job of the Celtics big man is to get back on defense.

Unless they already have great inside position, they are likely getting back.  Stopping fast break points.  Making the other team work.

Who cares what Pau Gasol does?  KG spaces our offense and doesn't leave Rondo alone to guard the fast break.  He's doing his job.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

I think this is exactly it. The Celtics tendency to get back on defense rather than attempt an offensive rebound is one of the reasons we are *normally* allowing so few fast break points. If you have KG and another player crashing the boards every single time down the court a quick outlet pass off a defensive reb is going to lead to a fastbreak oppurtunity where it's 4v3 or worse.

Not just that, but if KG crashes the offensive glass whichever big that's getting back on defense is markedly slower and less mobile than KG.

I think we are the #1 ranked team defending the Fastbreak, allowing the fewest fastbreak points per game.

Exactly.  Shaq belongs under the basket crashing the glass, it'd be stupid to have him running back to play defense over KG.

It is bbd's JOB to rebound, especially on the offensive end, when he isn't out there.....I don't know who should be under, shaq, erden, perk......?

BOOM, and that’s why we don’t get offensive boards.

Doc doesn’t believe in sending extra guys to the offensive glass. I’d rather stay strong in transition defense.

He has to get back as well.  Sure he doesn't get there as fast as KG, but if he doesn't, the Celtics end up facing 5 on 4.
