As much as I love the Durantelope, Lebron is the #1 pick to build a team around hands down. Howard and Durant are the only players in the NBA that a GM might hesitate trading for Lebron, after that every player is a available for a Lebron trade.

If I were starting a franchise from scratch, I think I'd start from scratch.  He's an amazing offensive player, he seems like a good person, and he's coachable.  He doesn't have the all-around game that Lebron does, but I think he'll eventually develop it.

Based off the description I'm guessing you're talking about Durant here, Roy?

Example #573 of why doing multiple things at once is a bad idea.  Yes, Durant.

If I'm looking for my #1 option, I want someone who will make his teammates better and work within a system.  I want someone who not only has individual talent, but who respects the team of professionals around him, the coach, and the organization.  I'd also want someone who knows who pays his salary:  the fans.  A little humility and grace in light of all that a pro athlete gets and can give would not be "extra" in my NBA franchise.

That is 100% not what Lebron is.

I'd take Durant over Lebron in a second, and probably CP3 and Melo.  Gasol is making a case.  There are a number of 1st/2nd year players that I'd need to see more, but John Wall and Blake Griffin are possibilities, as is Russ Westabrook.

I just think Lebron is such a cancer to an organization that he takes as much as he gives and, in the end, poisons any chance of winning when it counts.  I really wouldn't want him on my team, and would probably take a package for him if I couldn't get Durant, Melo, or CP3 for him straight-up.  The team would be better.  It'd be like trading Wilt...

For instance, if I'm the Miami Heat and have my choice of any player in the league to play beside Wade and Bosh, I'm not taking Lebron.  I'd prefer Howard, Durant, Chris Paul, and probably Deron Williams.  All of those guys would fill holes better than Lebron does, and would be more complimentary to Wade's and Bosh's game.
For the Miami Heat to play alongside Wade and Bosh ... I'd take LeBron ahead of all of those players. I think LeBron adds more than any of those players would in his place.

I would take Dwight or Durant ahead of Wade though. To play alongside Bosh and LeBron.

Although, I'd move Bosh immediately if Dwight Howard were on the team.

Right now, the Heat have two players with very similar games, and a gaping hole at center (and arguably PG).

Adding Howard would cover up almost all of Bosh's deficiencies, while allowing Wade to be the primary offensive option on most possessions.

Deron and CP3 know how to run an actual offense, and both can stretch the floor better than Lebron can.  They'd be better able to incorporate everybody into the offense, and the Heat would be more efficient.

Durant would bring a different dimension to Miami's offense.  He'd be the worst fit beside Bosh and Wade of the players mentioned, but his outside shooting could cure a lot of ills with the Heat offense.  He's also proven that he can be a dominant scorer even without the ball in his hands on every possession; he's had no problem as Westbrook has turned into a star beside him.

If I was looking to win this year I'd take Kobe, if I was looking to start a franchise I'd take Lebron and wouldn't give it a second thought.

Starting a franchise from scratch?  Still Lebron.

Durant is the only other guy I'd consider but, at this juncture, I'd still take Lebron.

I would take every last player currently in the NBA, Ncaa, or high-school before LeBooBooDaFoo.  There is just no way, as an owner, I could stomach having him on my team.  Even worse, having to pay him.  Uggh!

About 75% of the league I would take.  I'd rather have a less skilled , less athletic guy like say PP than James any day of the week.  This guy is inefficient despite a great EFF stat.   Wilt looked all world too in terms of stats but he didn't get it, God rest his soul.

On the Heat, there isn't a single player I'd take over LeBron James. If I could pick 2, they have enough holes so it would be worthwhile.

If I was starting a Franchise, I'd probably go Durant. LeBron James is the better player, but if you're starting from scratch and making completely new chemistry, Durant is the way to go..he could handle that.

Of the other guys mentioned, only Dwight Howard would be comparable in terms of eventually producing wins for that Miami team.

His FG and Shooting are almost at the worst ever in his career,  I can see his points being less per game with the move to MIA that would indicate less touches.  But he should be getting better looks at the basket with Bosh and Wade to strip off defenders.  In theory, his shooting percentages should be even better with peeps other than Sideshow Bob and Mo Williams to draw defenders off him.  But its not and he isn't going to change his game.  He plays 1 on five all the time, dribbling away time and possesions.   He isn't even remotely a money player or clutch shooter.  Without all the David Stern FTA bailouts, he pretty mediocre scorer shooting .44% from the field.

This guy is not the Alpha Male that peeps make him out to be.   I think they sheltered and pampered him in CLE.   I suppose Wilt had his admirers too.  Lack of heart is pretty [dang]ing to me, I'd rather have a less talented effort guy that would play team ball.   The Celtics have beat many teams with more talent if you look at your history.  We'd won last year w/o ref gate in the second half.   We beat them by teamwork and depth but usually they had better starter with wow wow stats.  I guess not being from Boston, I've always liked our style of play and and corporate team climate  promoting team ball more than wow wow stat players like James, Jordan or Showtime Lakers.  Its no coincidence that my least favorite Celtic years were AW's time here.  He was a wow wow stat guy with an inefficient game.

Thank God, Danny Ainge don't think like most here.  He gets competitors not the show players with good stats but guys who put effort on both ends of the court and play together.

I mean if your the other teams Gm. For the purpose of winning a title, how many guys that you would not trade straight up for Lebron.

 For me.
 Durant
 Westbrook
 Rose

Noah  [not losing a top five center)
 Gasol, Pau
 Kobe
 D Williams
 C Paul

 D Howard
 Pierce
 Allen
 Rondo
Garnett [the celts are trying to win now, for the sake of

winning now, no chemistry changes for the core unit]

That's thrirteen guys I turn dowm Lecon for right now.

Honestly, I'd probably trade any of those guys for Lebron.

Maybe not the C's big 4 of Kobe/Gasol, only because of all the success they have been. Especially in the Celtics case, if you trade Rondo, Allen or KG, it wouldn't make sense. You would then need to move Pierce.

But even Durant and Howard, nah. And Noah? LOL!
