Some excerpts:

Quote
"We like our guys," Ainge said by phone late Wednesday night. "Avery (Bradley) is starting to get going. Avery and Von (Wafer) are going to have to step up and play."

Quote
"In order to (make a move) we'd have to let someone go and we like our guys," he said. "Whether Avery's ready or not, he needs to be ready. He hasn't been healthy, so at some point he's gotta be thrown into the fire, right?"

The Celtics have depth at the position with Rajon Rondo, Nate Robinson, occasionally Marquis Daniels and the rookie Bradley, who has been hampered following surgery to remove a large bone chip from his left ankle. Ainge said he is secure with the depth.

Good to hear that they're willing to give Avery some run. The kid definitely has talent and there's only one way to find out if he can hack it in the NBA - let him play in actual games. Hopefully this happens in the Toronto game.

He does have a chance at meaningful minutes in the Toroto game, but then Rondo returns and he will see the floor in blowouts only.

Let's hope this is the case.  They miss Rondo in a big way.  I was actually hoping he pulled a surprise and showed up tonight to deliver a beat down on Toronto.

Making a roster move in Nov for backup guard never appeared to be me much of an option to me.

I actually saw Wafer work at defense on one section of the last game.  I also noticed he didn't shake Davis hand on a ft made.
While Ainge (and me) like the team, if danny has a deal to improve team he'll do it.  We still need sf player.

Translation: We'll wait and see who's available at the beginning of January when teams start waiving players with unguaranteed contracts.  I'm looking at you, Von Wafer.

Obviously, he needs the trade guru's at CB to give him some ideas...

Might have just been lip service, but KG made a point of mentioning Wafer's brief, but effective, contribution after the NJ game.
Yup

Yahoo is reporting Danny said they're planning on being without him for 3 months.

Its all speculation at this point, but this is basically what Doc has been saying as well.  They are not counting on him at all at this point, and are just hoping he will be back for the playoffs.

Of course, it could change if things heal quickly, but its probably just better off to not get your hopes up.

Ugh...the most important ability is avail-ability.

Delonte and VW both have non-guaranteed contracts.  As much as I love Delonte's game, we need a backup guard that is rotation-worthy AND actually available to play.  Ditto for backup center.

I'd be taking calls...

I don't see how Delonte's injury changes things.  Our weakness is at SF.  With West gone we still have plenty of depth at SG with Nate, Bradley, Wafer, and Marquis.  Meanwhile Marquis is the only guy we have who can play the 3 and on top of that he's undersized and injury prone.  Unfortunately this injury just makes it more unlikely we'll make a move to get another SF, and makes us even more screwed when Marquis goes down.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

Danny never said he isn't taking calls.  He is always taking calls.  He just is not actively seeking someone yet.

I think this team is still just fine the way they are. Wafer has a few weeks to prove he can step it up and fill the hole Delonte is leaving.  If he fails, then I am sure Danny will change his tune.  But for the moment, there is no need to panic.

Rondo will be back in the next couple games, and at that point, they will have plenty of depth for now.

Danny can always reevaluate things later if more injuries happen, or if talented guys become available either as vet minimum FA's, or in reasonable trades.  But for now, there is no need for him to panic, as they are still one of the deepest teams in the league.
