Big Baby Davis for Grant Hill?? (idea)

At this point in his career, Hill is not enough of an upgrade over Marquis Daniels to sacrifice our big man depth.  He's such a weak defender that he might even be a downgrade in the role we'd ask him to play.

I love his play and he's a class act, but I thought he was comfortable in PHX?

I do not like this trade idea. Baby fulfills a much bigger need for us, and is much younger and energetic, than Grant "over the" Hill. Pass.

Marquis, Delonte, Nate, Luke, Von..any one of those guys for Grant Hill would be an absolute coup for us. The backup SF is our biggest weakness, and Grant Hill coming to the squad would make it our biggest strength.

But, with KG's recent health history, Perkins injury and unknown effectiveness on return, and Shaq/JO's fragility, trading Glen Davis for Hill is a net loss for the Celtics.

Because we tend to get overattached to role players and overestimate both their importance to our squad and their trade value.

Very interesting idea. Nervous about the bigs' injury concerns, I would probably want to wait and see what happens with Perk first. A risk.

I love Grant Hill's game though and I think his addition to the team would be a good improvement over BBD. I don't view Davis as a long term piece so I have no qualms with moving him for an older player who strengthens us in the short term. I'm worried about BBD's contract demands this summer.

Injuries aside, definitely ... but I'd prefer to wait and get a better idea of Perk's availability along with the two O'Neals.

Hi everyone. I'm not a BBD hater, but over the summer I wanted the C's to trade him, and even when they resigned Nate, I liked the idea of trading Shrek and Donkey for either Jason Thompson+Francisco Garcia or Josh Howard+Yi Jianlian. On paper, the Celtics would improve in the wings with either trade, but would become weaker inside.

As the season started, I changed my mind, and now I wouldn't trade any of the Celtic players, well, maybe Harangody and Erden... I don't think anyone would want Wafer. But Nate and BBD are playing very well, and the second unit is going to be special.

I wouldn't trade Nate, and given Perk's situation, I wouldn't trade Davis, but there could be an scenario on which it could be a positive for the C's, and it depends on if they're gonna resign him or not.

If BBD agrees to resign for Perk's (current contract) money, I would do it, maybe a bit overpaying, but he's got value. If he's wanting more money, they'd better get Sheed out of retirement and dump Baby+Harangody for a second round pick in the weak 2011 draft, plus Hill (if the Suns end Nash-less) or a similar trade (Josh Howard is rehabbing from his ACL and meniscus surgery, so he's not an option).
The C's would get an expiring contract, keep salary flexibility, and anyway, if Davis wants more money they won't sign him. And come playoff time, I like Sheed more than BBD, whose best assets are health and hustle, and an ugly yet-effective midrange game. Sheed wasn't healthy last year, and he almost carried the team to the title (with Perk out and KG still not as good as now).

Then, if they haven't waived or (unlikely) traded Wafer by that time, they can let him go and offer Tiny Gallon or DaSean Butler a contract just like they did last year with Lafayette and Gaffney.

If there's no Sheed, I wouldn't trade Davis. I like the team and I don't think any GM will offer a good trade to the Celtics. They'd fear Herr Stern's reaction.

That's 3 centers. We'd be left with one playoff caliber power forward in KG. Jermaine O'Neal is barely fast enough at this point to cover centers: PF for him is out of the question.

There are some power forwards that Jermaine would struggle to defend but there also a large number that he can defend. Especially as a backup PF versus a starter where the quality and athleticism of his opponent is lower.

It would be nice to have BBD to call upon in some of those instances (especially in the regular season) but even then BBD wouldn't be a regular rotation player.

He would be a borderline rotation figure who plays now and then.

Keep Davis as pf and c if needed.  He's a great energy guy which is something needed on our team, just wish he was a better rebounder.  His offense however is really nice this year.  Don't worry as the season rolls on I believe danny will find us another sf.  Maybe wafer will show he can give us 5 minutes at sf if needed    .  With delonte back and playing so good off the bat, I can see lineups of ray at sf.  As long as we keep his minutes regulated (all starters)
