Big Baby Davis for Grant Hill?? (idea)

With some of the Nash speculation and Phoenix not being super outstanding(other than that 22 three point shooting night)
Nash could be up for grabs. And with Nash out of Phoenix, that would then set up the other ring chasers to be bought out or traded. So enter Grant Hill...


I see him as being too classy to ask for a buyout, and I know the main reason for him staying in Phoenix, instead of coming here, was to stick with Nash. Now enter NBA Trade Machine

BBD for Hill?

Works financially, and makes sense for our SF hole come playoff time(and during the regular season so Pierce/Ray can rest) If Nash left, it would make sense as BBD could be a building piece along with Warrick
And Hill would be the perfect backup SF, and still better than some of the starting SFs on other teams

He can score well from all areas of the floor and play solid D. Would you sacrifice Davis who might end up walking next year to solidify our bench unit for the 2 year window of Championship opportunity? This also goes to assume that our bigs all come back healthy together

Personally, I wouldn't trade a  young guy for an old guy straight-up.

And be prepared for the barage of BBD-lovers who think role players off the bench have value that cannot possibly be replaced, even if said role player doesn't actually have the length to help us against the teams we're concerned about (e.g. LA, orlando).

No interest in trading one of our only young "bigs" for a injury prone old wing player, much as I like hills game.

Not opposed to trading Davis, but the last thing this team needs is to lose depth in the front court which is old and injury prone to add injury prone depth to the wing

Any trade that sends Davis out needs to net a solid front court player to lessen the impact on the oniel's and kg's minutes

Why would we want to give up a young player who, while not tall, fits our system and makes good defensive rotations for an older role player?
Currently our need for 4/5s is far greater than 3s.  Do you really want Semih to be the big 1st off the bench in the playoffs?  The O'Neals have already had injury woes, and we aren't sure when Perk will be beastly again.
It makes no sense.  This is not the Grant Hill of old.  He's just old.

One just gets so [dang]ed tired of folks wanting to get rid of Davis.  We've got a helluva bench spark player, a uniquely versatile guy, and folks just can't stop looking for 'short'comings.  

I suspect most teams would jump at a chance to get Davis.  I suspect Ainge is too smart to even think about it.

We've got a good thing going now. I'd rather see this play out than make that trade. I like this team as is if we can get and keep everyone healthy.

Screw em, he had his chance to come here and decided to stay with the suns. We don't need him, our chemistry is good right now with davis coming off the bench.

It's not about wanting to get rid of Davis, it's about thinking of ideas that might make the team better.

This isn't one of those, however...

But there just have to be possibilities out there that would improve the team.  Danny's managed to assemble an assortment of talented players on reasonable contracts, and still has all draft picks in his pocket  Danny might have enough pieces to deal like it's summer, 2007, BUT WE HAVE TO BE WILLING TO LET GO OF ROLE PLAYERS to get better.

I would think that in order to deal davis, we would need to get a real 3/4 in return or a PF/C and and SF,hopefully from a team that overrates Davis and thus the C's get the overall benefit.


I'm thinking 3-way deal that would net the C's Wilson Chandler and Dante Cunningham if the Knicks still want Rudy or to OKC for DJ White and Sefolosha if they need more beef, or Thadeus Younge & Speights if they've given up on those two. Hard to see, though.
