Rondo is the best player with an alliterative name in the league. He narrowly edges out Paul Pierce.
Joe Johnson call shennanigans.

Not after last year's playoffs he doesn't.

After he got his contract such piddly matters as his playoff performance aren't relevant.

He has bounced back to right around his normal level of play to start this year.

Which probably isn't ahead of Rondo right now...

Maybe not, that'd depend a lot of your subjective opinions about two very different players playing very different roles.

But its close and thats with Rondo taking it up a notch.

ESPN polled their panel of experts.  The experts say the best player with an alliterative name is Lebron James, because he's the best at everything.

I currently rank Rondo #2, behind CP3. His outside shot just isn't good enough to rank 1st, but his defense, passing and slashing abilities are superior.

Rondo most assuredly is the best PG for the Boston Celtics which all that matters to me... and BBD.

I love Rondo, but I think it's fair to ask whether Chris Paul or Deron Williams could put up the assist numbers Rondo is putting up if he played with 4 future first ballot Hall of Famers.

You could certainly argue that a guy like Paul with a strong outside shot might be even more effective, as defenses couldn't sag off of him.

Still, I think what gets overlooked in all the Rondo talk is his defense.  Offensively, I think there's an argument to be made he's not the best in the business.  But when you factor in defense (which most of the national media doesn't), I think he's the best in the business.

What is great about Rondo and the team this year is that as ROndo has become increasingly creative his teammates are becoming (in my opinion) increasingly accostomed to his creativity -- they are now expecting passes in tight spots and are more and more ready to receive and finish.  Turnovers will still happen with such creativity, but fewer over time.

Players know that if they find daylight, RR will find them.   What a great mindset for an offense.

People talk about how Rondo's playing with 4 future HOFers like he's Ainge or Henderson on the mid-80s Celtics. How many of them are playing at a HOF level right now?

Well, three of them are playing at an all-star level, at least.  It shouldn't diminish Rondo -- 15 apg is impressive no matter what -- but it's a fact that Rondo is surrounded by a lot of legit talent.

CP3 has a better assist to turnover ratio than Rondo.  CP3 can actually score with a wide ranging arsenal and obviously sacrifices assists to score himself.  I view an elite player as somebody who can do everything well and some things exceptionally well.  But they don't have glaring weakenesses.  Rondo can't hit a 12-14" jumpshot and can't shoot free throws; he's not even average, he's poor/bad at those.  CP3 is an all star on any NBA team he starts for.  I do not believe that is true of Rondo.

Look at Gasol and Howard.  Most view Pau as the superior big in the league now.  Largely because Howard does not have a consistent and dependable offensive game.

Having said all that, Rondo is a great fit for this team.  I'm not in any way trying to knock Rondo.  But saying he is better than the elite players in the league is foolish.

Rondo may very well challenge the all time assist record this year.  But did you know the years Stockton averaged 14 assists he also put in 17 points?  Rondo could do the same or better if he could shoot.

I must agree he did a great job. But the argument of not shooting because he can blow by guys is stupid (for purpose of scoring). Its like saying a guy does not hit home runs because he rather hit inside the park home runs. That is alot of extra work for the same result.

Rondo just can't shoot consistently. I'm near accepting the fact that this won't change for him until he loses his speed as he ages. He just has so much energy (not the concentrated variety) that expecting him to shoot well would be expecting too much.

The big three in Miami also proves you just can't put any pg and expect them to be great. Rondo is a great fit for our team and given enough time (good student of the game) would be able to play on any team in the nba.

He is top three pg in the league right now

By the same token, it shouldn't really diminish what those three are accomplishing even though they're playing with the best passer in the game.
