Could they package Mario Chalmers for anything of use to them?

They seem committed to keeping his but on the bench and he's the only young piece they have. (they've already given away most of their picks of any worth I believe)

There was a report on RealGM a short while ago saying that Miami was offering Chalmers + $3 million in cash to any team that is offering an upgrade at the point guard position. Maybe combining him with some other small contracts and making a run at someone like Jarrett Jack.

Could that net them someone like Will Bynum from Detroit (or even Stuckey) if the Pistons decide to save cash at all costs for a sale?

Will Bynum may be a possibility but it looks like Joe Dumars values Bynum highly ... the Pistons probably won't part with him for the package Miami are offering.

Anyway, Bynum would be a lousy fit on Miami's roster. He is a ball-hog who is difficult to play with and has hurt his teammates badly in Detroit (especially the perimeter guys = Rip, Ben Gordon, Stuckey) + can't play without the ball and doesn't try to + has limited range on his jump shot + his lack of size defensively leads to problems on that end of the floor too. 

Will Bynum is a pretty big downgrade compared to Mario Chalmers.

I don't think Acie Law helps them much.

Though I suppose they could play Tony as a "PG" like Doc has in the past. Just for his defense.....

I don't think they'll move stuckey to save money. They can just let him walk if they want to really save cash.

Rip/Prince are the guys to watch.

To move Rip they might have to include Stuckey... Dumars should be fired for giving that extension to Hamilton.

That's what I was thinking.  It would surely do wonders to stop PG penetration (that sounds dirty, doesn't it?) while keeping the ball in the hands of the playmakers and scorers.

It sounds like a way around the cap, though?  Could they then turn around and trade Acie Law plus $3 million for, say, Chris Wilcox?  Telfair?

Miami's going to have a helluva time just making a trade happen, numbers-wise.  They could do something like the Tony Allen deal, but they just don't have any "filler contracts."

Besides Two And A Half Men, they've got

Mike Miller making $5M (but he's not going anywhere)
Haslem making $3.5M (ditto, he's their third-best player)
Joel Anthony making $3.3M, but for five years (including player option)

Other than that, it's a bunch of guys at the minimum.  Hard to make the numbers happen.

Plus, Miami's not exactly overflowing with young, attractive talent, and they've given away about as many draft picks as they can.

Miami needs to sign Dampier, there isn't a big man who's any better that they're going to be able to sign or trade for.  Otherwise, it's just hope that someone decent gets bought out.

Don't see how Miami's team is much different in April than it is today.

I think they were stupid to pass on Dampier. He would fit perfectly into that starting lineup. It really doesn't make sense...

It comes down to selfishness. If the Heat start playing less selfish and keeping the ball moving they are going to be deadly. However, Wade and James need the ball in their hands. The rest of the team stands around and watches as they dribble dribble and dribble... Thats not gonna win ball games.

I'm trying to imagine what the addition of scrubs like Banks and Wilcox would have on the Heat, and actually, I think even such garbage players, with the right skills (defense, rebounding), would make them much, much more dangerous.

And I really don't think it would be that hard to pick up pieces like this?  Honestly, I think a player like Banks would help them more than Eddie House does.

They need a lot.  A better fan base that isn't on geritol, a real PG, three superstars that can deliver.  a new coach, some bigs, desire to win and maybe a desire to play defense.

Chalmers + two minimum contracts (say two of House, J.Howard and/or Magloire) would allow Miami to take back about $4.5 million worth of contract(s). They could also throw Dexter Pittman into the mix to get up to $5 million if necessary. That seems to be the ball park.

Also, Chalmers is in the final year of his contract. Miami is also sending their 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2015 first round draft picks to Toronto and Cleveland. So they don't have anything to offer up there either, as a further incentive. Just the $3 million in cash.

Not sure what that package is worth ... needs some thought.

Just looking through the list of teams ... I don't think they can get any upgrade at the point for that package.

Miami's only real hope would be some team (say Toronto) wanting to get rid of someone (say Jarrett Jack) to ease a problem (financial issues, minutes issues between two PGs, that type of thing) + there being a lack of suitable offers in the trade market. Both parts of that are, well, a bit wishy washy.

It looks very unlikely that Miami can anything done along those lines.

I think the Heat would be better off packaging Chalmers and cash for a young wing player instead of a PG and moving Wade or LeBron into the PG position. Someone like Brandon Rush who is capable of playing of playing above average defense, above average rebounder and can shoot from the perimeter.

They need someone who can guard Ray Allen so that they can leave Dwyane Wade on him. Using this trade package for a young defensive wing who can shoot would be their best way to acquire that player.

I'm not sure what teams would actually want to deal with Miami anymore...possibly none at all in the east.

Minny is looking at a logjam at PG, though, with Flynn coming back, along with Ridnour and Telfair.  That's a lot of PG's for an offense that doesn't really need one, and they're all an upgrade.

I'd say there's a decent chance Minny gets buyer's remorse over Ridnour and takes Miami's offer of Chalmers and the cash.  And that would make Miami much more dangerous.
