  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
There have been some conspiracy theories out there that bringing back Sheed has been the plan all along and I don't think this is the case - necessarily. If we get into Feb/Mar with a totally healthy big man line-up, then there is really no reason for it. Do we really need 6 big men (plus Erden, who I am at best luke warm on)?

However, if JO remains iffy and Perk isn't 100%, or other problems occur, then Sheed seems like the obvious choice and I imagine he would be more than happy to come back for one last shot at it with this group.

I think that's it.  If they need help up front, they've got 'Sheed's phone number, he may or may not come back but he strikes me as a guy that'd like one last chance to go out on top.  'Sheed's got pride up the wazoo, if I'm being an armchair psychologist I'd say that his enormous pride is both to his credit and also behind a lot of his difficulties (he really seems to take bad calls as if they are a sign of disrespect).

Celtics have every year picked up some veteran help for the stretch run.  They won't let go of Erden, he's shown far too much already to waive...  but Von Wafer really couldn't be any more invisible, even with the team needing another guard with Delonte out.  I'm not sure Wafer makes it past x-mas.  They'll be a roster spot open when he's gone, and whether that gets filled with another guard, another wing, or another big will be based on who's healthy and where the depth is needed.

It'll be about time for Quis to get hurt come February, anyway.

If J.O and Shaq can’t go for any extended stretch of games, Boston will be feeling the need for Sheed.  ;D

Then we can go into the playoffs with each of them playing a quarter each at center.

Perkins to get the defensive intensity up, Rasheed to space the floor with the second unit, Shaq to get everybody in foul trouble, Jermaine to close out cause he’s the best FT shooter.

LOL

Rajon Rondo, Delonte West
Ray Allen, Nate Robinson
Paul Pierce, Marquis Daniels
Kevin Garnett, Glen Davis
Kendrick Perkins, Shaquille O’Neal, Jermaine O’Neal, Rasheed Wallace

Theres your twelve man rotation. Have fun on the boards against that, even if all our fives have one knee each.

I can't stand Rasheed and don't want him back for a lot of reasons.  But at least he was durable and played with pain.

Rasheed’s role was to shoot three’s and pull the other teams big man out of the paint. Don’t know if that’s why you dislike him… but i’m just saying.

I think Sheed would be a great fit for Boston for the playoffs, again to see Sheed would be great.

As we progress into the season and go through the situation with our Bigs getting banged up, I am believing more and more that we could in fact see Sheed back in Green. For me, I wouldn't mind it.

I just hope he is staying active. He proved to me in that Game 7 that he definitely has game, still.

FWIW: I had always been of the "Perk will be useless until next season" camp, until I attended the Manchester pre-season game and saw him out on the floor working, until just before gametime, practicing post moves with an assistant coach.  Perk looked great!  Fluid, bouncy: just great.  They're taking their time with his rehab, but mark my words, he'll be back at close to 100% by the All-Star break if not sooner.

There's no way Semih goes anywhere, obviously.  You're looking at a "plus" backup C beginning in the post-lockout season.  Right now he's inconsistent, but that will change, have no fear.

Sheed is arguably the best option out there.  Indy, for example, is playing Josh McRoberts at backup C because the other options suck so bad.  Several other teams are in the same boat.  There's NOTHING out there at C.

I thought a Sheed comeback would be fun when he came to visit the Celtics season holders practice, but I didn't really believe it would happen.

Now it kind of makes sense if our bigs are all banged up come February and Perk is not back to his level already.

With that said, I would welcome Sheed with open arms if our bigs are healthy (or kind of healthy), you never have too much of them and we could just cut Wafer who is useless to get Sheed. I just hope he won't be as out of shape as last year but theorically he would even be worse with almost a year off. :P

Semih's shoulder will need surgery so says Doc.   We could have both, Sheed for the playoffs and a chance to develop Semih for the future.

I'll take him as a fith or sixth  big man. He played great defense on Howard last year in the playoffs. Actually he has always played great D on Howard, he owned him in Detroit. And Let's be honest based on matchups Orlando is our toughest competitor if Perk isn't able to return to full speed. At this point asking the O'Neals to guard Dwight is folly.

Didn't we beat the Magic and lose to the Lakers last season?

Uhhh yeah... But my point is perk can guard howard 1 on 1 and Shaq and Jo honestly can't... Shaq and Jo can guard Gasol however. They can guard Gasol better than D12. Thus without Perk I believe Orlando is a harder match up bc we will have to double Dwight more. He is too athletic for the O'neals and can take their banging. Gasol is no athlete but his skill is unmatched today. Still the O'neals can bang on him and all that skill bc he won't blow past them like Howard.

The Nba is all matchups man. See GSW over Dallas in 2007 playoffs and why Atlanta gave us issues in 2008.

First, Let me confess:  I am a big Rasheed Wallace fan.  I know Sheed can do stupid, infuriating things but I just love the guys game.

IF this is true, I would take Sheed in a second, bc the one thing that Sheed can do that most bigs in the NBA cannot is that he can guard any big man.  Sheed is strong and quick enough to handle many of the leagues big men.  SO yeah, another guy who can guard bigs, thats fine with me.

But I would not dump Erden bc he has potential.

Definitely don't dump Semih. Dump Wafer when Avery gets healthy and can play some garbage minutes bc that's all Wafer is doing.

I can't see Sheed coming back unless the C's get killed with injuries. If everyone's healthy, he is #6 on the depth chart at the 4/5.

Why would he come back for a prorated minimum deal to sit on the bench?

He has a title already, so he doesn't have the P.J. Brown motivation.

Now if JO and/or Shaq go down for the season, I could see it happening, but let's hope that doesn't happen.

"If Sheed comes back"

I've seen a lot of dump Wafer, dump maybe Erden
Why not dump Harangody?
I like the kid, but If we are going to add a big, at least let go of one.

Luke can definetly play, but I dont see him as a key part to the future like I do with Avery and Semih.

I consider Harangody a small 4 and not so much of a 3, but I wouldnt mind keeping Wafer, Adding Sheed, And dropping Harangody.

Backcourt would then be:
Rondo/Nate/Delonte/Ray/Bradley/Wafer

Front Court:
Paul/Marquis/KG/Baby/JO/Shamroq/Perk/Sheed/Semih
