DAL was giving Rondo the outside jumper all night.  We've seen this tactic by countless other teams as well.  Rondo couldn't hit a 14 footer to beat MIL last week but we still pulled it out in overtime.  Last night Rondo took what I consider the true last shot of the game.  Allen's shot was just a fortunate rebound and hurried shot and KG's was a desparation heave.  But it was Rondo's shot we had time to seutp a play.

Issues with Rondo are he has a very poor jumpshot, and can't make free throws.  I'd rather have the like of PP RA KG take a contested shot, and even Nate, BBD and Dwest when he comes back.

When he is left wide open to take a completely uncontested shot, while the other team is doing everything they can to shut off the passing lanes then absolutely.  He did the absolute right thing last night.

Best creator on the team, both for himself and for others.

I am happy with Rondo having the ball in his hands down the stretch of a close game.

But he can't shoot.  Teams give him 8-10 feet! That tells you something... doesn't it?

I liked having him with the ball late. Either driving or taking the wide open jumper is fine with me in that situation.

Except he's been knocking down open shots at a better clip this year, particularity to end possessions/quarters.

Hell, he had swished a clutch jumper not a minute before taking that three, I was fine with it. Pierce was well covered and Ray was being denyed the ball by two guys. Got to take that shot to be in the league.

I had no problem with the shot he took last night nor the shot he took at the end of regulation in the Milwaukee game.  Both were good shots and not forced.  Unfortunately, they just didn't fall.

If Ray & Pierce are getting smothered and Rondo has an open look, I'm certainly not against him taking the trigger.  I'd rather have that than see Pierce or Ray force something off-balanced.

Having the ball in Rondo's hands at the end of games in November and December will hopefully make us better in that situation in May and June. Is your ultimate goal to beat the Mavs or contend for a title?

I guess it's unanimous so far.  Rondo has hit more than a few threes with the clock running out throughout his career. He needs to lead the team, which includes deciding what's the highest percentage play, which this clearly was.

If he misses, which he did, there's still time for a rebound or 2 and a couple of more shots - as we saw...

As has been alluded to many times on this board, RR shoots best when he doesn't think about it and just lets it go (e.g clock shot winding down, etc). Both in last night's shot and the one the other night, I think he had too much time to think, and when he does, he usually hits iron. Let it go, Rondo!!

NEVER! I am so sick of seeing our worst outside shooter take the last shots at the end of quarters as well. What a wasted posession...

Sure, Rondo should be allowed to take the last shot, anyone on the team should be able to.  I think it just needs to come within the flow of the offense.

If Rondo is on the floor in a last shoot situation, the other team is going to play their defense to make Rondo take the last shot which is good for them, not for us.

I think you will see Delonte on the court in those situations and Rondo taken out.  They will have to man up on Delonte and it will make it easier for PP or RA to get a shot.

Rondo was shooting 50% from downtown this season before that miss. The Celtics took 2 more shots after it. That was not a wasted possession...

The problem wasn't with the shot he took it was with the 10 seconds of dribbling prior to the shot. They couldnt come up with one play out of the time out to get a player the ball? Hey, Rondo was wide wide open, he usually makes those threes at the end of the clock. Would i have preferred him to drive? Absolutely. But its a wide open shot, whoever has the shot of this team should take it. He took it, I'm ok with it.
