  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
I'm loving how he runs the court.  Every time he is out there on at least one occasion he outruns everyone for fast break dunk.  Great stuff for a seven footer.  And that under the rim pass to Baby was awesome.

He may never be a great finisher and rebounder in traffic, but he does a ton of the little "extras" that a lot of big men can't do.
I'm just shocked and pleased that the random tall Euro actually is a contributor!

When he was picked, and after hearing about his middling to poor play overseas, I never thought he'd give the C's anything.
I am confused by this negative talk about his play oversees. One broadcast mentioned he was a Turkish League all star. That seems to indicate he was not struggling or playing poorly.

Perhaps people were looking for the wrong things?

I don't think that happened. If it did, they have weird standards for All-Star production in the Euro-leagues.

09/10 Euro stats: 6.2 pts, 5.4 rebs, 48% fg with 3 fouls in 22 minutes.

Pretty not great for a 23 year old in a mediocre league.

That's ridiculous. How do you get to the all-star game averaging less than 10 ppg??

Tracy McGrady and Allen Iverson agree that all-star game selections are the best way to evaluate a player's performance.

To answer the OP, I think Marquis Daniels is loving Semih's passes when he roams the baseline. They've been having a good chemistry since the preseason.

I think Doc is loving Semih the most since he doesn't have to worry too much with the O'Neal brothers injured.

Maybe the Turkish league actually cares about defense.

I am proud.  :D

What's interesting is that he has already made more meaningful contributions to Celtics than the two guys picked ahead of him (Walker and Giddens).

Especially when there is fan voting.

**ANY** criteria for evaluating performance fails is certain cases. So what?

I haven't seen him play in Euro-League. I personally wouldn't use an all-star selection for any league I don't watch as proof of anything. (all-star selection frequently sucks for a variety of reasons)

Have you watched his league?

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I do not know why really..maybe its all the excitement in this thread, but I am not on the "Erden is awesome!" bandwagon.

I'm on the "Semih Erden is a times maddeningly inconsistent but shows flashes of a skill set that might one day let him be a valuable rotation player, and I am cautiously optimistic about that." bandwagon.

I totally agree. It's not like he is horrible, but I don't think he is the next big thing (or sure isn't there yet). The fact that the Celtics are 6-1 is probably a big reason he is getting so much love. I am just happy that he is filling in for Shaq/Perk without stinking it up. I really don't want to count on him come playoff time, though.

Either way, good for the big guy getting some solid minutes early in his career. Hopefully he can build on this experience.

Shelden got similar love last year now that I think about it, though he was playing a much bigger role at that point than Erden has.

He's had one good game so far out of 4 people.  How many people even remember him appearing in 3 other games?  Give him credit for a nice game last night, but I'm not expecting those types of contributions on a regular basis.

Leon Powe put similar stats for us, and the whole blog was going gaga over him.
