By the way, shouldn't one of those reporters ask Charlie V what the worst thing he ever said to an opposing player was?

Does anyone actually believe KG had this well written long winded grammatically correct trash talk, that he claims?  I mean come on it just isn't believeable.  I'd buy KG said someting to the effect of "You're a cancer" with the intent in the way KG says in his statement, but no way in hell he said "you are cancerous to your team and the league".  Just not believable as trash talk in the heat of the moment.  And if he said you're a cancer I could see how Charlie V would take offense.

Normally I would say no but it is unlike Doc to come out and lie about this type of stuff.
Doc is just supporting his player.  What coaches always do, and he probably realized KG's intent as well?  KG's statement of what he said just isn't believable.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah

He could have said "you're a cancer" and CV might have heard "you've got cancer". Does he listen intently to every word that KG says when he's being berated?

I realize that this is CBA season, and that the coarse behavior of NBA players is once again a media-sanctioned Serious Issue. But does anyone really think these guys don't talk like this to each other all the time?

Knowing the competitor KG is, and knowing how he expresses himself, if all this stuff was taken that seriously players who were undoubtedly on the receiving end in the past would not be so anxious to play with him now...i.e. Shaq, JO, PP, RA, 'Sheed, Perk, Delonte and Glen Davis...and on and on.  After hearing KG for the past couple years, you can not tell me that these guys were off limits before (or  since) they were team mates.

Great article- I also like this quote:

Garnett's legacy? Well, first of all, beware any sportswriter who starts talking about an athlete's "legacy." It's often just a mealy-mouthed way for him to talk about his own feelings.

Yup.  Seriously, Woj, this'll "follow him into retirement"?  This won't follow him into next month.

What gets lost in this too is that after the initial tweet Villanueva hasn't been saying anything, it's been entirely pumped up by the media.  Would this have been even half the story if we weren't playing on ESPN last night?

His comments are pretty frustrating.  I may not be remembering this correctly, but wasn't it KG that yelled "Happy Mother's Day, edit to Tim Duncan after his mother passed away when they played on Mother's Day?

For all of you saying Larry did the same thing, I can't imagine him ever ripping into Magic for having HIV.

I know you're quoting (without a source) but please don't use masked profanity even then a [bleep] is sufficient.

I don't think that's apples to apples.

But, someone other than  Magic, a guy who he didn't like much who he thought he could mess with and get a competitive advantage over? Yeah, I could see that. At least, I wouldn't be surprised.

Considering the Merry Christmas story among many others I think Larry would say anything to get under an opponents skin.

this whole thing is stupid and overblown

Exactly. You think things like what Charlie V. claims KG said don't occur all the time? The only difference is CV tweeting about it. Happens on the court, handle it on the court. If I were a player in the NBA I would be most upset about CV taking what happens during the game and airing it in public like he did. What KG said is the tip of the iceberg of what many many many NBA players say and do every game. Why this has been made into such an issue is absurd. The sanctimonious posturing of A. Woj' is more ridiculous than anything else. Legend tainted? Gimme a break, and that goes for a player on any team not just The C's.

I highly recommend this Tommy Craggs piece on Deadspin.com in which he rightly calls this the non-issue it is, and questions the false outrage: http://deadspin.com/5680957/the-stupid-outrage-over-kevin-garnetts-mouth

I don't see the Merry Christmas story as being anything at all controversial.  He was just kind of being funny/cocky.  He wasn't ridiculing someone's disease.  What would your opinion be of someone like Kobe ripping into Ray about his son?

What I think is lame is that CV isnt even saying this hurt his feelings because of his disease.  He is saying it is out of line because Garnett is making fun of cancer patients, which isnt the case.  While i dont condone what KG said, i think CV's response to this solidify's that he does deserve to be talked trash to.  The manner in which he has handled this is straight up bush league.
