Assuming CV is telling the truth, my thoughts:

1) If KG said this, it was completely out of line as far as trash talk goes. But, lets try putting this in a little context. If KG had used homophobic slurs on a metro looking dude like say Andrea Bargnani, would we be as outraged? If he had used white racial epithets on Kyle Korver, would we be as mad? No. We wouldn't.

"We" wouldn't?

Seems like about half here aren't outraged in the slightest.

Sorry, I'm one who doesn't agree about your speculation on racist/homophobic taunts.

I feel like much worse things have been said. If half the things said in the heat of battle were tweated after a game the public would be appalled.

Had Villaneuva actually had cancer it would be offensive.

I feel like this is a case of Charlie's feelings getting hurt because he is sensitive about the disease he has. Well, even with the disease he's still a millionaire player in the NBA. If his feelings are hurt he should go swim in his vault of money Duck tales style. That should make him feel better. I'd shave all the hair I had if it made me grow to his height and made me millions.

Wow - because he has a different disease, it's not offensive?

And because Charlie makes good money, he should be immune to being a human being with issues about his lifelong disease?

3) Lastly, like I said before, I think what KG said is objectively out of line, but I'm not a basketball player. But, if CV was so incredibly offended, he should've dealt with it like a man and gone right to the offending party. Stick out his leg on a KG jumper, or hard foul under the hoop. That's how you deal with it. Personally I don't give a crap how politically correct KG's trash talk is, because I know (like Jeff said before) that I'll be offended by it. I understand that. Thing is, I just watch the game, and you know what doesn't offend me? Wins.

Or you know, he could have walked up to him after the game, and explained to him that it went over the line.  The fact that he felt the way to deal with it was to tweet it is completely bush league.  Especially if he is also going to basically challenge KG to a fight in the process.  If you want to be a man about it, be a man about it.

KG: +24
CV:  -13

Yeah, I'd rather have the players who, when angered by opponents, try and expose them on the court than have them challenge them to a boxing match at a later date.

It is offensive to US to hear that but in the context of an NBA game it is probably par for the course.

I know I am speculating this but you would be doing the same to argue that this kind of talking doesnt go on.

And tweeting it calling KG out for the comment without putting it in context is bush. Then he challenged him to a fight via tweet. Puhlease.

No, Charlie should be a man and approach KG one on one. IT happened in the middle of a basketball game trash talk.

I've heard and probably said worse things at my local pick up spot. IF i have a real problem with it, I go up to the guy and tell him he crossed the line (happened like twice in 5 years of playing there)

I don't go home and post it on celticsblog/facebook ect and then challenge the guy to an internet fight.

That's bush league.

I think there's really two separate issues, thats what people are missing.

1) did KG cross the line? (I , and apparently many others think he did)

and the completely separate

2) is Charlie V a spineless player for dealing with it in public and doing the ultra bush league "I want to fight him...hold me back!" move after the fact,  and not as a man? (To which i also answer yes.)

I know I have heard much worse things thrown around in pickup games, and I imagine playing in the NBA does not tone it down too much.

I think the question should not be "is KG a bad person", but "is trashtalk inapropriate"?  Because if you have a problem with this, you probably have a problem with the majority of things that come out of these guys mouths on the court.

In the words of West to Von Wafer: "Do something about it." Stop being a Sally and whining on your twitter account about it, and let your game do the talking.

For Fafnir and Hila:

I'm 99% sure that the Legends that I mentioned (Larry, Michael) never went as far as joking about someone's medical condition. That's off-limits to me.

You have no idea if that's true, you just want it to be true because it's offlimits to you and those are some of your favorite players.

Wishing and being sure are two separate things, and given what is readily available about both players trash talking habits, and how trash talk in a competitive sport is anyway, "99% sure" is such a stretch it's laughable.

Villanueva is not going to be able to get revenge on KG on a basketball court.  He's not good enough with the body or the mouth.  KG threw a low blow to Villanueva and Villanueva did the same in retaliation.  He got back at KG probably the only way he thought he could.  If he goes whining to KG after or during the game, he's going to look like even more of a baby to his peers.

I don't think it's too far.
KG can say whatever he wants on the court to his opponent to mess him up, the twitter response is proof that it worked.

Is KG looking down on or making fun of cancer patients? No. I think we all know KG is not a monster and no way in his heart does he hate cancer patients or think less of them.

However, he knows that the comment would get into his opponents head, so he uses it… effectively.

Is it too far? If KG was saying this to a reporter, or in some other public fashion then yes, it’s too far.

In this case, in a 1 on 1 scenario where only his opponent heard him and the comment was only directed to his opponent by the motivations to throw his opponent off his game.

It’s not a personal attack on cancer paitents, or anything like that.

People who think so are just not looking at the facts or the context.

From what I have heard about Larry's trashtalking, I would be shocked if he didn't go well beyond that.  I wouldn't be surprised if he was talking about their family members medical conditions.  The guy was notorious for being a total jerk on the court.
