Just saw on the pre game show. Jermaine signing looks like a bust so far.

Hope Erden is available tonight

This is the third game of the season.  I would hold off on any talk of a bust until at least half way through the season (if not more).  There is a lot of time left for him to make up for the first two games.

Jermaine O'Neal will be a useful addition. Give him time.

Was resigning BBD a bust after he broke his thumb?

A young idiot breaking his thumb isn't the same has blowing the full MLE for two years on a guy who has played the following number of games in his recent career:

2010:  70 (contract year)
2009:  68  (in TOR and MIA combined)
2008:  42
2007:  69
2006:  51 (includes 15 game suspension for Palace)
2005:  44

He hasn't been close to reliable since the 03 and 04 seasons, when he played 77 and 78 games and was an all-star talent.  That is certainly no longer the case.

I don't think he'll get healthier and more reliable with age.  Larry was right (in speaking of JO):  The most important -ability is availability.

Half-way through last season, much of CB was defending Sheed's fat, lazy, poor-shooting ass...

Wait, are people calling JO a *bust* after two poor games?  After he missed a chunk of preseason and was clearly rusty?  After he looked pretty good (at least defensively) before he got hurt?

Wow.  Two games.

Sometimes, I think I need another sabbatical from this place.

Don't mind me, Bird.  It's not the two games; I haven't liked JO in the first place...at least since he started with the persistent health issues and missed games  SIX YEARS AGO...then the palace incident...and hasn't been any good since.

He played 70 games last year (mostly pretty well, when not being defended by Perk).

KG played 69.  Pierce played 71.

Now, he's had his injury issues over the years, but can we at least give him, oh, a couple weeks in green before declaring him a bust?

You're certainly correct.  It's too early to label him a bust, but it's never to late to think we never should have signed him in the first place, which is/was my position on the JO deal all along.  We're not really a deep team if we only have so many healthy players available or guys are playing hurt.

What we're experiencing now should have been predicted (and was):  a plethora of assorted injuries, none of them supposedly serious, but JO is the sort of player who has everything hurt (e.g. hammy, knee, wrist, back, etc. etc. etc.), but never actually needs surgury or anything, but misses games repeatedly, season after season.

You simply can't rely on JO.

That he played 70 games last year for a contract really makes me wonder whether he could perhaps have been a go on at least some of these nights he has taken off over the years.  No heart, IMO.

It's only my intuition but it seems like he just doesn't want it enough. I'm not saying he should play if he's injured, but when he has played, he just didn't seem to have his heart in it.
I hope for his quick recovery.

Am not impressed. He talks a good game; but he needs to make a more consistent effort. Has been a frustrating start for him; but would rather see him fight thorough it and get into a rhythm than sitting out every other game.

Well, maybe it's time you start giving Jermaine a chance and showing some loyalty to the team?

Loyalty to the team?  Are you serious?

This is suspiciously close to a call-out, which is explicitly not permitted.  If you want to pick a fight, please go elsewhere.

Discussing the merits of the roster, including trades and acquisitions, is a very okay and normal thing to do.  JO's lengthy and consistent track record of missed games due to aches and pains is surely within bounds, especially since he's now missing games in Green for the same thing.

I've written elsewhere that Danny's gamble this summer was on health of known talents, rather than gambling on the talent of healthy players.  He may have lost the wager in JO's case, and perhaps given his extensive history of missed games, it was a bad bet.

To suggest discussing this in a discussion forum devoted to the team is somehow disloyal...well...I don't appreciate that.
