Could this be a situation where the Celtics sign him, only to cut him and guarantee that he goes to Maine (assuming he plays in the D-League)?

I have no idea, just throwing it out as some conjecture.  I know very little about Tiny Gallon.

This is exactly what's happening. Even though he wouldn't be our property in Maine, it would give us a great look into how he fits into our system and how he interacts with Ainge Minor.

And more importantly, it allows them to get him on their conditioning program.  Tiny's biggest issue is his weight, and the C's have had luck getting guys like that back into shape in the past (see: Perkins, Kendrick).  So, this would be a nice opportunity to try to get him into NBA condition, and get a good look at him in their system as well.

I actually think this kid could be a very good basketball player if he can drop the weight.  He has a ton of skills and very good feet for someone his size.

Oh man, this is a dream come true!  I was hoping they would pick him in the second round this year, just so we could have the possibility of having a Tiny Baby frontcourt.

Tiny Baby, Big Gallon, Baby Gallon, Big Tiny...the possibilities are limitless.  I know nothing about this guy but I'm all for this just based on nicknames alone.

He's intriguing.  If he could drop some of his weight and keep his strength, he could be a good player.  The questions about his work ethic concern me though - from what I've read, he's not in very good shape, he won't battle often enough in the post on offense and he won't battle at all on defense - a man as big as he is should never give up post position, yet he apparently does it often.

Slightly bigger Glen Davis at best.  That's a good thing, since a 6'9" Davis with length is probably a starter.  He has a crazy amount of development to do, starting with his physique.  Still, he's very young and I think it's a good move by the FO - low-risk, potentially high-reward if he ends up panning out.

Here is another scouting report worth reading:  http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Tiny-Gallon-5248/

Hopefully he will stick and learn a lot from watching Shaq over the next two years. He is bigger, longer and more athletic than Baby. He also has more range than most people think. Hopefully we can make him into a poor man's Paul Milsaps.

I love the signing with Bradley we have two of the top 9 players from the 2009 signing class (6 of which Wall, Bradley, Cousins, Favors and Henry are in the NBA).

I went to about 10 home games for Oklahoma last year.  The kid is maddening.  He shows glimpses of Al Jefferson hands and footwork, but the other 98% of the time he looks downright horrible.  That being said, OU doesn't exactly have the big man coaches that we do.  It would have been nice to see what CRay could have done with him.

Must have sucked to go from Griffin who was a ridiculous to Gallon who is a totally different player.

"I think some of the kids that we find today, they don't know how to work," said Boylan. "It's not that they're bad kids. They're actually good kids, but they just don't have that work ethic drilled into them at this point in their lives.

"So he needs to get to a program where they're going to work with him and make him work hard and keep him on the straight and narrow, hold him accountable when he doesn't do the things he's supposed to do.

"Two or three years from now, he could be a decent player. He's got some skills, he's got some ability. He likes to play and he competes. But here he just kind of ran into a situation where we didn't have enough space for him."

The team still needs to cut two players to get down to the regular-season roster limit of 15.

After the Bucks made the 6-foot-9, 290-pound Gallon the 47th overall pick in last June's draft, he took part in informal workouts here and then some practices with the summer league team before it departed for Las Vegas.

The Bucks played five summer-league games, and Gallon averaged 6.6 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 19.4 minutes per game. Gallon committed 23 fouls and turned the ball over 20 times in what coach Scott Skiles afterward called a "rough week."

He's 19.  I don't think Perk would have shown much better than 7+ rebounds in 19 minutes at that age either, would he?  Looks like there's some real talent and potential in there--if the C's can chisel it out of him.

He's supposed to have good hands, so it's probably just a matter of a guy who didn't play seriously until he was a junior in high school ramping up so quickly in level of play by age 19.  Also sounds like he might have to work harder.

Good move!

Bring on the next generation and let them learn from the masters.  Tiny could learn alot from Shaq and KG, et al.

Tiny is a little bit different from Archibald but looks like he could maybe be a power 3.

Brilliant decision and one that shows you that Ainge is a one of the better GMs in the business.

As someone said, with Bradley and Tiny, we have two young players with the most potential in their class.

Rock on, Danny!  Let's build our future while we win in the present.  Celtics dynasty underway just like in the 1960's.

  • GOT IT!!!
Tiny is lazy. If he comes in and  busts his butt he is very capable of playing consistently in the league. I just don't know how serious he is about doing that though. He's apart of the new breed of high school/AAU star that expects instead of earns.
