It seemed he didn't play well in the last 2 preseason games.
I don't like his game. Can we find a better sg/sf replacement?

What's your thought on him?

no,

Keep Von. Unless you want Michael Finley to come back. Give him some time, Von will be fine.

  • You know my methods, Watson.
preseason games are largely a waste...  don't make any assumptions based upon them as the coaching staff knows what kind of work is being put in during practice time, individual workouts, film study and dedication (ie. coming early and staying late).

even if he's kept, he'll probably never see the floor much...

i know its kind of wrong to assume this, but feel bad for Wafer and at times seems to me that he doesnt look emotionally or mentally ok

basketball aside hope thats not the case and the kids alright mental problems are no joke

Wafer may be a gunner, but I'd like to see him be forced to play without a lot of touches on offense and demonstrate that he can pick up elements of Doc's defensive schemes.  Otherwise, he's never getting off the bench except for possibly end-of-quarter situations.

For those who are watching the games, how does he look on defense?

I say keep him for at least 10 games.  With Delonte's suspension there is no reason not to keep the extra depth especially since Bradley is only 19 and has just started playing again.  If after 10 games he hasn't shown any thing and Delonte is ready to go I'll have no issue releasing him.
do it

Actually, you can see he is trying hard on D, palms up, feet moving.  The problem is that he is just not playing with any confidence.  Where is the gunner, where is the instant offense.

So far, the old Von is Gone!  I've seen a nilla Wafer score more in a gym!

Well he is not showing anything really. He is blending in and not playing with mnuch confidence at all. If I didnt hear Doc say that in practice he is basically playing the same way, I wouldnt think anything of it but he is running out of time to prove he can be the player he was 2 years ago. I like Mario West better at this point

cut him
besides the younger obvious cuts who will never be nba players I'd rate wafer as the next player who looks to go
I'm thinking an injured bradley can help us more than what wafer has shown on the court

Even though the team has plenty of depth Von Wafter might still be a little short to be expected to back up Paul Pierce at small forward, as it has been stated here a few times before. Honestly, I haven't noticed enough negative aspects about Wafer's game in only two pre-season games to where I would be sure that he isn't a good fit for the C's. I know this group was at one point trying to get T-Mac to come off the bench here instead of staying in New York or going to Detroit, however we instead picked up Wafer and Delonte and re-signed Marquis, the latter being perhaps the only player tall enough to where we could expect that he wouldn't be over-powered by players like LeBron, 'Melo, Durant, etc.

At this point, I just don't see Von Wafer being kept over Lasme.  The two of them are battling for the final roster spot (assuming the Cs keep Gody).

I don't like his body language one bit. Two techs in the preseason already is clearly not a good sign. Also when he went to the bench to get termed out by Doc he had an incredulous look on his face and had something to say. Cut this headcase immediatley. It's clear he hasn't learned anything from being cut by Adelman and black listed to Europe.

I'd much rather keep Lasme. The kid clearly looks like he plays D at a high level and his effort has been there too. Plus he's a big body and possibly could be good at the sf spot.

I am inclined to agree that the techs may well be his final straw. I had hoped he would show some Eddie House 'gunner' skills, but that hasnt exactly panned out. This guy play and acts like he is nothing more than an extra "camp body" and he is starting to realize it.

I think we keep the Gody for sure, he is the new Scal IMO. He will be headed to the D league pretty soon, maybe even first or right after Bradley.

I like Mario West, but not sure we tie up a roster spot unless it is just long enough To cover Delonte West absence. He is a little redundant if we have Bradley and Delonte. Hopefully he accepts a D league spot for us.

Lasme is interesting, I would like to see a little more of him. He is definitely giving plenty of effort and seems to have the physical skills to play both forward spots even if he is tweener height wise. He is also going to the D league IMO.

There was that one tech he picked up in the first game...  thirty seconds to go, up by thirty.  No idea what he did or said, they didn't address it at all on the broadcast - but there is absolutely no reason to pick up a tech in that situation.

When does Wafer's contract become guaranteed?  He hasn't shown anything to prove he belongs on the court, but with Delonte's suspension and AB being a rook who ain't seen the floor yet, it wouldn't be terribly surprising to see him make the team out of camp.  Then, ten games to prove himself until Delonte returns, and if not....  gone.  Nothing says you couldn't bring back Mario West or Lamse, if they haven't committed elsewhere.
