NBA To Ban Mock Turtlenecks Worn By Coaches

I want to criticize the NBA for this needless micromanaging but I'm torn because I've been protesting Van Gundy's wardrobe for ages.

The NBA is implementing a new dress code this season -- but instead of being directed at players, it's the coaches the league is insisting dress up. No longer will coaches be allowed to wear mock turtlenecks under their suit jacket. Instead, a collared shirt is now required apparel.

"I don't like that," Boston Celtics coach Doc Rivers said. "I really like Stan's style. I thought Stan really set the bar for the dress code. I think he should stay with that. I think it's nice."

When stuffed shirts like Stern get the feeling that they're not contributing anything, they start tinkering with the dress code.

With this new policy, the old player dress code, and the ridiculous new technical foul policy, it appears that Stern will have players and coaches in his appropriate desired image.

Now it's time for Stern to portray his officials in an equally appropriate way....

With that in mind, the officials should borrow robes from Ric Flair and have their own introductions and entrance music.  Because they officiate like WWE officials.

Wholeheartedly agree.  Stern's job is to grow the product....Grow the brand.

People keep buying into this.  Stern did an outstanding job of ignoring the Donaghy fiasco.  Apparently Stern appropriately felt not addressing the officiating in earnest while the Donaghy situation played out was the best course of action...The product still grows.  The current NBA is almost inarguably the most overtly biased officiated product in sports' history. Why address it?  People still watch.  Apparently one of Stern's focus groups have come to the conclusion that the way coaches dress is a concern...

Every move Stern has made...and hasn't made has worked.  The reality is if a person is/was a stockholder in the NBA during Stern's tenure, everything the CEO has done has been remarkable.

I understand the need to have coaches dress neatly.  If NBA coaches were going the way of the Belicheck style sleeveless hoody, fine, change the rules.  However, SVG dressed neatly and professionally.  Whether he's wearing a button-down or a turtleneck, it doesn't make a difference to me.

It's the same thing with the players' dress code:  I appreciated the fact that the players are given at least some discretion in how they can dress, even if it's significantly more limited than it used to be.  http://www.nba.com/news/player_dress_code_051017.html  For instance, at games, a player can wear designer jeans, a sweater, and a sport coat, if he wants, or he can wear a full suit.  I think coaches should be given similar discretion (except for maybe the jeans).

The next guy is just going to come in and pull a Goodell and try to clean up the league and make his stamp...the Devil you know, is better then the Devil you don't.

I thought for sure this would be a joke article from the onion. Sometimes, though, reality is pretty funny... and absurd.
