Did anyone catch Donny's soliloquy on Baby last night?  He went on and on suggesting that Baby still needed to learn to be a professional off the court by showing up to practice on time, listening and such, and that Baby's play on the court wasn't good enough without his also following through off the court.  I figure his rant didn't come from nowhere.

Poor Donny.  He's just mad because he was a scrub. ;D

I think Baby has looked fantastic. I think he looks in even better shape than last year. He seems dedicated. I can see a guy with his ability and history of coming up huge in games , being a little defensive.
I consider him right now to be one of our most reliable big guys because of everyone else's injury history. He's just gatta keep it about team. I would fully understand him going for the money next year. He SHOULD do that. I think Baby will deserve time and he'll get it.
I'd be afraid to trade him. It just seems to risky this year with the other guys health. Does anyone think any team would be dumb enough to give anything of value for a Semih package? The Semih love is just us in Boston, right?

Showing up late? OOH. That's not cool.

DeRozan didn't fall on Baby's chin, that's an improvement for Glen! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bYNnEsAKFFA&feature=player_embedded

I dislike BBD's attitude as much as anyone on here, but I have come to a conclusion. Here is what BBD does well:

-Scores well when he is facing the basket and going to the rim. Getting better at a more consistent jumper, especially when the team is heating up and the crowd is loud.
- Becoming a very solid free throw shooter. He is getting fouled and knocking them down.
- Rebounding the ball fairly well. He's no Dennis Rodman, or even Leon Powe, but getting                                        better.
- Bodies up on bigs well on defense in the post.

Here's what he does poorly:

- Finishes around the rim.
-Guarding out on the perimeter.
-Keeping his mouth shut and playing.

The fact is that he definitely has some NBA skills. Whether those would translate into consistent starter skills on a playoff level team is a debate. He definitely could start on a bottom feeder team though. I think that if we have an injury or discover a big weakness around the trade deadline the guy will be packaged up and moved on. If that happens I sure hope Harangody progresses quickly because he appears to have some of the same skills and could fill his shoes nicely. Not there yet though.

With the Celtics comfortably up twenty points over the Kings (57-37), Glen “Big Baby” Davis committed a bone headed technical foul after he obviously committed the infraction that caused the temper tantrum. Then he proceeded to “mouth off” to Coach Rivers when he was scrutinizing Davis for the obviously dumb T. Then he proceeded to take a seat on the bench for the rest of the game.

“You don’t get a tech in that situation,” Rivers said. “You’re up 18 points. Clearly, your team’s struggling. You’re not Garnett or one of those guys. You don’t get the liberty to talk anyway, to the officials. Clearly, he earned it I guess, but you just don’t get it. And he wasn’t playing well anyway at that point.

“I thought he was playing like the score. I told him, ‘He’s not at that point in his life yet, where he can turn it on and off. We need him to be an every possession player and I don’t think he was that tonight.”
This is what bugs me about Doc. Ok, so we're up by 20, Doc puts Baby in, the team struggles. He knows the game changes for the worst while Baby's in there, but leaves him til the opponent nearly ties the game. Baby compounds the problem by arguing, only reason he took him out? Keep pointing his good qualities, but he's a game changer IMO.

As the Celtics started the 2009-10 season 23-5, talks of a 70 win season started to circulate around the green again. As the team continued to flourish, Glen Davis was rarely mentioned as a missing factor to furthering the Celtics dominant start. Davis returned to action on December 25th against the Orlando Magic. Glen Davis is providing energy off the bench, backing up the big ticket. There is still the occasional moment when we find ourselves shaking our heads in disbelief at the amount of O-boards Baby grabs in one possession, only to have our disbelief turn to disgust because all those boards resulted in 3-4 more block shot statistics for the opposing team– no points for the C’s.

Still, we continue to credit BBD for his terrific effort– an effort that has led to nothing but our praise.

POSE WITH THE LARRY O’BRIEN TROPHY
DATE: June 18, 2008
FAIL: After the Boston Celtics defeated the Los Angeles Lakers to win the 2008 NBA finals championship, Big Baby was seen in this pose with the Larry O’Brien trophy. For a dude who only played a total of 15 minutes in the whole series, scoring only three points, this disrespect to the trophy isn’t warranted. Winning your first ‘chip is sweet, but not that sweet.

This is blown way out of proportion. If you listen to Baby’s original comments it kindof sounds like he’s just questioning “roll or pop?”

He also just likes to talk and be a personality, Glen wasn’t trying to complain... he just wanted to talk to the reporter. Glen has a recurring case of “foot in mouth”

let’s get off of this now, just because Kyle Draper keeds bringing it up doesn’t mean we have to.

Fat T-Mac is bringing the pain so far.

I'm curious-- who/what are you quoting there?

That picture never struck me as disrespectful to begin with. Hilarious, yes. Disrespectful, no. He's not even touching the trophy.

Baby only played in garbage time in that series, and his contributions were more of the practice player sort at that time, although he did make some real game contributions during the regular season. But it seems very un-ubuntu-like, and therefore very unlike that team, to say that he shouldn't have taken silly pictures with the trophy.

I know that he has flaws as a player and there are reasons to be concerned about him going forward, but, really? This is a red flag?

I had never seen that site before Roy, thanks for the link.. it's pretty funny.  The "disrespect" picture they're referring to is actually embedded in that website (licking the trophy).

Quite frankly I don't think he was disprespecting, I just think he's young & immature.  The one thing I don't like however is how he's bragged at times to opposing players that he has a ring and they don't.

Personally I don't find Davis likeable, and when you list out his immaturities like that website does (except for the "pushing the kid", which wasn't his fault), I get even more irritated.

You mean like how Rondo bragged to Chris Paul?  I swear it's one standard for players you like, but different for players that are disliked.  And I don't even remember reading where Baby said that.  Is there a link to that quote?

The picture is irrelevant, nor did his pose with the trophy even bother me. I don't agree with the site's disrespect opinion. Other than funny, the reason I put it up was to remind how little he had to do with that Finals win. I had forgot how little in fact, makes me believe even more he is the obvious difference in both Finals. Before that, I posted how Doc has watched his team struggle after putting Baby on th floor. This is to prove that it occurs more than often, despite excuses his backers on this blog make on his game and behalf. I didn't need the pic....but it's hilarious still, so I used it.

I think the health of KG and Perk, the departure of Posey, and the Lakers getting Arrest and Bynum were the obvious differences.

I'd prefer that, rather than bragging about how many points he averaged, or something like that.  At least he understands what is important there.  Its all about championships.

Wait, so are you saying having Big Baby on the floor is worse for the team than having KG or Perkins on the floor?  No way I buy that!

Davis is a 8th man.  Of course the team is not going to fare as well when you have him playing more minutes, because a starter is injured.  Just like if Posey was starting in 2007 because Pierce or Allen were injured, we wouldn't have fared very well then either.
