I don't think he's that eager to come back.  And it'd have to be pretty bad with injuries.  Because if everyone's healthy, we probably don't have enough PT for the bigs we have, let alone Rasheed.  And while you could argue that you can't have enough depth (and you'd be right), I can't see Sheed coming back (for minimum money) to sit on the bench.

Rasheed may return this season as a peanut vendor who heckles Joey Crawford and get's T'd up for it.

Or he can sit next to Tommy and whine in his high pitch, "That's a TERRIBLE call!!!"

Or he can be in the seats drinking beer with Antione Walker and Vin Baker.
The beatings will continue until morale improves

If we pull some sort of semi big trade during the season, one that would have to include Big Baby, then I could see Rasheed coming back, if not, he stays at home.

Rondo/ Dwest
Ray Allen / Wafer
Pierce /
KG / JO
Perkins/ Shaq / Sheed

Trade Nate, Baby, Daniels for a real backup 3.

you guys forget that sheed got injured very early in the season and never quite recovered from it.  when he first started playing for us, he was changing everyone's mind about him.

I don't think he was done - just hurt.  Give him some healing time.   I would love to have him back.
Huh?  He was playing at his best in the playoffs when his back was hurting the most.  He definitely wasn't hurt all year.  He was just out of shape, lazy, and indifferent most of the time.

I think Sheed is actually retired, which means he can't come back for a year.  However, even if he wasn't, I would put the chance of him returning this season at less than zero.

I believe Sheed had some love for the game of basketball.  But I also believe he had a lot more love for money, and pride.  For him to give back a significant amount of money in a buyout, and then come back and play for the vet minimum is just against his code of ethics.  He believes he should be paid what he is worth, and he certainly is not going to get himself into game shape for the vet minimum.

Since Sheed and the Celtics worked out a way to terminate his contract, I expect that he didn't bother officially retiring.

I really don't see why the already made decision to terminate his contract should affect his decision to sign for the vet min for a post-season run. The old contract is done. Future decisions are unlikely to consider the old contract.

I wouldn't sell Sheed short on his ability to make smart economic decisions with the guidance of his agent. (By economic decisions, I am not just talking about monetary compensation.)

Maybe his code of ethics is that he 'retired' because he wasn't willing to put in the level of effort that his contract required and he didn't want to take money he wasn't earning. There are many possible ways to understand the way events unfolded.

Well, you can believe what you want, but I personally believe that he retired because he was ready to sit on his couch, watching his kids running around, with a bag of funyuns in his hand.  And I do not think he will be swayed to leave that couch by a vet minimum deal for a couple months.

Will Rasheed return for this postseason If Big Baby is traded?

I think Davis can be traded and so we get a forward specialist defensive.

He should, nice way to pick up another ring. Short season and some championship hardware...I would. But who knows, he may not want to put in the work.

I think he'd be nice to have down the stretch.

Semantics games.

The big question is whether he is officially retired, not whether he is ready to retire. If he is officially retired, then there can be obstacles to him choosing to return.

If he is just not under contract, he has flexibility.

I believe he will return for the postseason if someone offers him good tickets.

Exactly. I think Davis will be trade bait, depending on how well Perk does with his rehab. I also think Nate Rob, who has a nice contract, could be dealt depending on how well West performs. Combining those two contract with Daniels could give us a nice piece in return. I'm thinking a good swingman that has 2 yrs. left on his deal and plays for a non-contending team.

This would open a couple of roster spots and allow Sheed to return as our 5th big. For all the issues many have with Sheed, how many teams would love to have him as their 5th big?

Here's something interesting from today's Globe from Doc:

Quote
“It’s going to be tough,’’ Rivers said. “We won’t have Perk or Rasheed for the first half. So I don’t know how we’re going to set it, but we’re going to have to work on it somehow.’’

It might've just have been a slip of the tongue, accidentally lumping Sheed in with Perk.  However, it also might've been quite Freudian in nature indicating that Rasheed is in the plans for 2011.

Everyone is healthy, I don't see a need.  However, if Baby gets traded, Sheed would be nice insurance in case one of our older guys goes down.  Having 5 reliable bigs likely would've won us the title last year.

A Sheed comeback has been in the books all this time!
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale
