If Glen Davis converted some more of his body mass to while staying the same weight then he'd be just fine. A guy with that sort of physique is 4-time NBA defensive player of the year Ben Wallace of the Detroit Pistons. Glen Davis is listed @ 6'9", just one inch taller than Ben Wallace and also LeBron James, though Wallace is a defensive-oriented center and LeBron is a 2-time league MVP who plays small forward.

...better to go in Ben Wallace's direction than Charles Barkley's imo  :-\

All I'm saying is, if your a professional athlete you should know when to lay off the Count Chocula. Why not just have Captain Crunch! The man needs to show some discipline. Not something he has shown much of off the court.

Again, how do you know it's about effort... all I'm saying is, it could be more than how much he eats or how little he exorcises.  A lot of ppl talk about Shaq's weight and conditioning (rightfully so in his case) but he will go down as one of the greats... not everyone is made to go extra hard at all times when it comes to conditioning, no matter how much they get paid (note the ppl who die "early" when all they have to do is exorcise more... death can't convince some to exorcise, you're talking money as if that's suppose to change ppl). BTW, they are paid to put a ball in a hole and play D (SOME) as long as they do that you should be happy... this isn't life or death, if you don't like it then don't support them w/ur money or cheers.

This is not a Fan Club Blog. I am a basketball fan and have been Celtics fan for longer than I would care to admit. If I don't like the fact that a player seems to show poor judgment I have a right to say it. I did not question his effort or his ability, just his maturity.

If it is so important for BBD to be "husky" than how do we explain the fact that when Perkins lost 30lbs his effectiveness doubled. He will never have a problem being mistaken for a lightweight. Jermaine Oneal is 250, Perkins is 280, Rasheed Wallace is listed at 230. Weight is not the only weapon BBD has and to suggest that he would be less effective if he had more lift and less heft, seems silly. We need rebounding and points in the paint not blocked shots and missed dunks.

Baby looks in decent shape to me.  If he loses too much weight, he won't be as effective.  We don't need a scrawny undersized player.  His size is what gives him an advantage.  Stay the way you are, Baby! ;D

Yes. If he loses belly fat he will obviously be scrawny and undersized. There is no way a guy could be physically huge like BBD but yet not have that 30 lbs of extra blubber around the middle. It just isn't possible.

I am sure that this guy would just be shoved around in the paint. Let's go ahead and stick 30 lbs of fat around his middle so that he is strong. Who cares about being 2 steps slower than they would be without it...

I'm not going to say this 1k times... you can't compare one person to another, I don't care what Perk did, this is about BBD! Not everyone can get to the ideal size you think they should be. This is about his weight... explain to me what "poor judgment" you refer to. You questioned (basically) his eating habits. As if you know he isn't (trying to) eating healthy. You said nothing about maturity in the post I quoted.  I never said you didn't have a right to your opinion... most of the opinions in this thread I (some what) disagree with, that is why I shared MY opinion! I don't know if BBD is a fat and lazy dude... all I'm saying is do ANY ONE of you know (not speculating) him to be?

I don't think the second paragraph was aimed towards me as I said none of that.

It takes me 3hrs to get to Miami and 1hr to get to Orlando... but I *SPIT* on their NBA teams! "Bless God and bless the (Celts)"-Lady GaGa (she said gays but she really meant Celts)

I think it’s safe to say that he’s slimmed down quite nicely, and he’s added a lot of muscle to himself. Glen Davis has a good thing going right now.

To answer the “best shape” question, I’d say it’s an obvious yes. But I think he can do even better.

People didn't talk much about Shaq's conditioning when he was 25, other than to call him a freak of nature. And I agree that money won't motivate Baby to get into better shape. Look at his career thus far.

By the way, do they still make Count Chocula?

Yes because steroids give you a body with no belly fat whatsoever. Or is that a good diet… You got my point completely...

Davis and foot speed in the same sentence?

Up until recently, you'd be more likely to see the words pancake-eating contest or girth or heft lumped together in the same sentence with Davis, who is listed in the Celtics' postseason guide as weighing 295 pounds -- a 6-pound increase over what he supposedly weighed in the preseason, but a whole lot less than what he weighed when he came out of LSU three years ago.

That is okay J.....we get ya..!   BBD can and should get in shape, that is that. He doesn't have miracle fat, or mystery fat, he is not big boned, it isn't a height vs weight conundrum, basketball is all about being in shape....you can't play to your potential, unless you are in your BEST shape, no extra fat-weight will help you in any way. Some more muscle will help some players, like bbd, but a fat rear and belly will not. You have to move, have wind (not break wind) and being in shape and strong will make it easier to get vertical, which is also essential, as an inside player. I just had to say that to dispel all this "PC" talk for his excuse. BBALL doesn't put up with excuses or pc junk....except last year with the @#$%%^^ lakers.

Yeah, this quote was from an article in espn about Baby's start vs the Heat, & why Doc chose Baby over Sheed. I was also trying to make the point that he'll put on weight eventually, so his shape isn't a big deal. His foot speed is, it's why I'm no fan of his. Scal is faster than him. He improves that, it makes a huge difference. This was baby last year at this time, remember?

He's slow down the court, but he's one of our quicker bigs laterally.
