Eastern Conference

I have nine teams marked off as competing for playoff spots. Three from each division.

Atlantic - New York, Boston and Toronto
Central - Chicago, Milwaukee and Indiana
Southeast - Orlando, Washington and Atlanta

I am leaning towards Toronto being the team to miss out on the playoffs but I haven't made my final decision yet.

Title Contenders = New York, Chicago, Orlando and Washington

With Oden, I'll have to see it before I vote for him. I think he's got the talent, and i do believe he could bounce back. But I have a hard time voting for a team of his w/o having seen him do it before.

1. Toronto

While this I don't understand. (With all due apologies to two of CB's finest, Edgar and Redz.) I can see picking the Raptors with a healthy Perkins to win any number of possible playoff match-ups should they sneak into the postseason. That's a great starting five. But I have a hard time seeing them winning their division. What happens when Anthony gets in to foul trouble in November, December or January? How does fringe-rotation player Udoka fair at the 4?

Worse still that West is out the first ten games of the season. That leaves Allen to run the offense for the second unit. And given the second units to be found elsewhere in the CNBA, the Raptors could easily drop eight of ten.

PG R. Allen
SG W. Ellington
SF Q. Pondexter (Pierce has to rest some time, so likely while Allen is still on the floor...)
PF I. Udoka
C B. Miller

oden, contrary to popular opinion is not injury prone. he just has god-awful luck.

I do have one other question, that I've been chewing over today. Fair or not to knock a team down in the standings for a lack of a press conference and post-draft participation? Given the crapshoot that is predicting the coming NBA season, is it better to give the benefit of the doubt to GMs who are going to be an asset going forward?

Or is the consensus to vote on roster strength alone?

oden, contrary to popular opinion is not injury prone. he just has god-awful luck.

In his one season with Ohio State he missed significant time.
After that he missed his entire rookie campaign.
The following year he played in 61 games, only starting 39 (playing 21.5 minutes a game)
This past season he played 21 games, started all of them (23.9 minutes a game).

He might just have "bad luck", but I label him injury prone til proven elsewise.

Personally, I just look at the rosters. Though lack of presser certainly doesn't help explain some of the decisions that I don't understand. There's been a lot of decisions I've come around on through reading what the GM's had to say.

fair or not if you don't ask questions in the pressers and you don't post your own/respond back to criticism, you're probably not making my playoff roster. hopefully ohio c's fan starts to participate real quick.

edit: this is mostly because this game is as much about the people who play it as the picks that are made...and if people stop participating, I get bored. I hate being bored.

also start orien, regarding oden:

I think that's a perfectly logical pov. but, instead of 'injury prone', maybe you'd rather call him 'cursed'.

Unlike IP, the reason I am willing to vote for these teams is because I actually prefer to be bored. Nights at my home mostly consist of me alternating between reading Family Circus and watching old episodes of JAG.

Bwahaha

Well you two are certainly carrying more than your weight this year. And I can see the merit in both opinions - which is why I brought it up.

I vote based upon rosters. However, if a GM doesn't participate, oftentimes I have unresolved questions, which I take into account in my voting.

Without explanations and I wish there was more pressers to look into more detail but I have

1. New York

2/3. Boston/Toronto - Boston is deeper but more flawed. Toronto is very shallow but talented in their top 4 players. Tough to pick one

4. New Jersey

5 Philadelphia

I see only New york making the playoffs from the Atlantic with 4 teams from the Southeast and 3 from the Central.

East is gonna be a tough one to figure out.  Certainly a little more team depth than the West.  The last few slots are gonna require a lot of thinking.
