In this article from the NBA blog 'Ball-Don't-Lie' Shaquille O'Neal states that he is only 2,000 points shy of surpassing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for the all-time scoring title:
http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/blog/ball_dont_lie/post/According-to-Shaquille-O-Neal-he-s-still-dominan?urn=nba-267962#remaining-content^While the majority of the article pejoratively questions whether 'The Big Diesel' has put in enough work this summer to be an impact with the Celtics for an entire season, or if he'll even be available for every game this up-coming season I found it strange that they didn't point out the fact that Shaq is over 10,000 points short of surpassing Kareem in the all-time scoring category.
Shaq has scored 28,255 points so far in his 19 year NBA career. Kareem, on the other hand has scored a seemingly insurmountable 38,387 points. In fact, even if Shaq combined his career points with Rajon Rondo's (3,378), Delonte West's (3,642) and Kendrick Perkins (2,830) he would still be 282 points short of equaling Kareem's record.
Now I'm by no means trying to undermine 'The Original Superman's' legacy as perhaps the most dominant center in the history of the game in any way, shape or form. However, in this case at least he might want to re-look at his stats, lol.
