This QF looks like it could get interesting: Djoko smashed one racket already and is now (I assume) cursing up a storm. And Monfils really looks like Steve Urkel in that outfit.
It did look good in the beginning, but near the end of the first set, Monfils started to play so annoyingly passive. Felt like he turned on the automatic mode and went to sleep.

He has the talent but also some mental stuff to work out.

I've concluded he's a lost cause. I hear he has a good coach but maybe he could benefit from a change. Either his coach is not getting through to him or he hasn't figured out how to help him improve.

I can't figure out why Djoko is stressing out over every point. He's up a set and 2 breaks. So many headcases on the tour these days.
Tommy: He's got a line about me. Tell him the line.

Mike: Everybody 60 or over knows Tommy as a player. Everybody 40 or over knows Tommy as a coach. Everybody 20 or over knows Tommy as a broadcaster. And everybody 10 or under thinks he's Shrek.

Instead changing coaches every few month, they should hire a good psychologist.

I have been watching off and on....mostly off though.  I am going to play pool in a few minutes, so will probably miss the rest of today.  (P. S.  I think my father had boxer shorts in that same plaid as Monfils' shorts....and that was 30 years ago!  ;)  )

Monfils is so dramatic seriously. If only he put the same energy he puts into running crazily around the baseline into constructing points. 5-2. Almost time to put us out of our misery. The match is putting the lines-people to sleep. On TV looks like they've missed quite a few calls.

Thierry Henry plays in NY now? I did not know that. Hope they don't plan to waste our time interviewing him like they did with Rick Fox last night.

Great idea. I always say the Celtics should hire one. Regular group therapy may help us figure out the slow starts and the apathy in home games.

LOL @ tb18. I can believe that. Have fun with pool!

Yes, he moved there this summer.

Wait, so besides basketball and tennis, you also like soccer? We should get married  ;)

LOL. Would that make me # 3 after Vera and Lena (hey my name rhymes with theirs too ;D) or are there any more famous wives out there?

Sad Soderling makes me a very sad panda. I forgot how high his ball toss was. I'm impressed he managed to control his serve to the extent he did in the wind. If Murray goes into his usual post-Slam slump maybe he can move up to #4 so he can have his own quarter of the draw.

I missed the start of the match and just saw this. I mean WTH?! My twin calls him the ATP Tony Allen and I'm beginning to see the similarities.

3 so far, but I promise to make you number one. It's all good and fun with Vera and Lena, but I need somebody to watch C's games with. Already scouted a nice house in Utah  :-*

Yeah, it was obvious that the weather conditions were favoring Fed but he was so sharp last night, and so motivated, that I don't think Sodeling had a real chance anyway. Fed looks like someone on a mission.

It's all going towards the super classico of tennis and it will be extra interesting this time.

It would be crazy to see Fed and Nadal complete their own career-slam of Finals against each other.  This surface has always been Fed's and the one place that Rafa couldn't touch him.  I still have trouble believing Rafa could beat him here, but the potential of such a match would be bananas.

LOL. That is so wrong  ;D

Yeah Fed looked completely unaffected by the wind. Especially his serve. It was amazing. Everyone else all day was visibly affected. Now all he  needs is to make it 5 in a row against Nole to make up for his sloppy performances this year.

Soderling really isn't that good on the fast hardcourts. His movement is too slow and he has that long wind up. Plus his go for broke approach won't work on a windy day. But I think he got distracted by the call early one. Pascal called his QF against Rafa at Wimby too and there were some egregiously bad call in that match.

TBH I'm on the fence about them meeting in the finals. I think Rafa should get by Nando but Youzhny/Wawrinka could be tough. If Rafa makes the final I'm not sure I want Fed there. His problems with Rafa go way beyond surface. If Rafa beats him convincingly here then what? Rafa is just so relentless, it seems inevitable he'll win the USO one day. I just don't want it to be against Fed.

I'm almost the exact opposite (and I think we could easily context that you tend to pull for Fed while I tend to pull for Rafa).  I don't particularly want Fed to win this year's Open, and would be fine with Nole taking him out.  The only reason I'd want him in the Finals is because of the potential of seeing them finally go heads up at the USO.

The Fed's surface of choice vs Rafa's seeming advantage H2H against Fed would be extremely interesting.  And it has potential GOAT implications as well, because with the career slam and the record number of titles it's hard for us Sampras fans to argue against Fed.  But if, somehow, Rafa were to complete his career Slam against FED, on his final surface of refuge, and run his career record against him even more lopsided...it becomes harder to argue Fed as the GOAT if he can't beat the best of his own time.

Either way, it'd be by-far the most interesting combo no matter what the outcome.

Mixed doubles is on now.  That was by far my favorite to play, although I liked doubles too.  It was a source of pride to try not to be a weak link on the court.

Just got home and missed the US/Russia game.

MaryJo F.  looks beautiful!  First time I have seen her for a couple years.  Glad she is still doing color commentary...
