The criticisms of Woz here are that she plays boring tennis and she's ranked so high because she plays a lot of tournaments. Basically the same reasons people hated Dinara when she was #1.
That she plays a lot of tournaments is not good enough reason to dislike her IMO. It's not her fault that Sarena and Venus are focusing mostly on majors and few masters.

Yeah it's not her fault the rest of the WTA is so inconsistent. Dinara got the same kind of hate a couple of years ago and I'm sure that all contributed to her downward spiral. Woz looks much mentally stronger so she'll stay high in the rankings.

I guess because I haven't been following tennis, I didn't know about this "hate" you are talking about.  The announcers seemed ok....

Good match...and I loved that Woz went to the net to win a point that last game!  ha ha ha

Woz won? I had to switch over to the Soderling match (I can't resist those dimples LOL).

Looks like another smooth run to the finals for Woz. Vera is the only dangerous one left in her half.

Yeah the announcers are OK. The hate I hear is from fans. Part of it may be residual from her beating Oudin last year.

Now i cant really say whats being said on the US channels as im not the US but every time you see McEnroe or lets say someone from the ESPN talk about her, they down play her ability and atribute it to eighter luck or bad play on the opponent and i just dont bloddy understand that.

Take an example: The match Wozniacki had prior to today, the american broadcasters who was broadcasting for the channel Eurosport were butching her for everything. Not only did she win because she started on the easy side (wind issues), every remarkable shot she had during the game had something to do with the wind and when she had a bad shot, it had nothing to do with the wind.

This was just one issue where you could see, that because she plays a fundementaly sound style of tennis, she gets unreasonbale amount of flakk.. and ill bet you that her win today will be seen as Sharapova clearly being better but just had one of her most awfull days, even though taking major risks were clearly apart of her gameplan comming into the game.

Im not biased when it comes to tennis, so even though im from the same country as Wozniacki i could care less how she does, as long as i see some good tennis, its all good.. and i cannot agree with the assesment that her style should be boring because she takes less risks than her oponent.

And here i am ranting.. its late!

Misha your girl is looking good tonight. She needs to hold on for the win. I hope the Fed/Melzer match is more interesting than this one.

Yeah, she brought her A game tonight - almost without mistakes at all. She needs to keep it up -  Kanepi and Wozniacki in the next rounds are beatable.

Federer must beat Melzer. His potential clash with Sederling should be very interesting. Fed would want to revenge the RG loss.

Yeah would be great if she can get to her 2nd straight slam final. She has a great shot against whoever comes out of the other half if she keeps playing this way.

Fed has no business losing tonight. Based on recent history this feels like an upset match so I hope he comes out with his A-game. Soderling wants to avenge his USO loss from last year too. He already got his revenge from RG. That QF will be exciting.

Yes! Nando wins. From 2 sets down. Incredible performance. Everyone said to give up on him 3 hours ago but I'm so happy I stuck with this match. I want my fave lefties in the QF. Rafa needs to take care of Lopez. Hopefully quickly since their match hasn't even started.

Venus won in another sloppy outing. I'm so happy to see her advance. For the next game she needs to cut down on her errors and burn that dress. Pity Schiavone has to lose. She's the only one who played well today all the other women were extremely sloppy.

I watched Venus' match, but couldn't think of anything to say...I am glad she made it through, too.  The Williams sisters are the only players I can think of who can play sloppy tennis, serve inconsistently, fight the wind and their tennis outfits as well as their opponents, and still win.  I know, since it happens so often, that it has to be skill, but it sure looks like luck,  ;D.

LOL tb18. She looks like she's about to slip on a pair of stilettos and head to the club after the match. I'm not a conservative dresser by any means but her (and Woz) need to get longer looser dresses. They keep tugging uncomfortably at their outfits after every point it seems.

That was a great match. Love the emotions they both showed out there. I wanted Verdasco to win too. I hope he can finally beat Nadal - their 10-0 head to head isn't flattering.

Vera are through  :P Not the most eye pleasing match. Two hours, almost 90 unforced errors later - still worth it.

Looking forward for the Fed - Sod clash  :)

Me too. I want Sod to put up a good fight but I expect (or hope) Fed cruises to the finals. No one in his half really should give him any trouble. It does look very windy though so it could be tough.

Was an exciting game wasn't it? And the final point was just sublime. Made up for the dud that followed. Rafa was ruthlessly efficient as usual but Lopez played like he just wanted to go back to bed.

Vera needs to bring a focused and clean game to get through to the final. Woz doesn't do well against the top players so it's definitely a very winnable game for Vera.

This QF looks like it could get interesting: Djoko smashed one racket already and is now (I assume) cursing up a storm. And Monfils really looks like Steve Urkel in that outfit.
