Participated in my first auction draft last week.

A little new to the format, and thought I could drive the price up on elite QBs (our QBs get 6 pts per TD, not 4). As a result, I ended up with both Brady and Peyton. I also bought Flacco for cheap, intending to make him my backup.

Assuming I keep Peyton, what would be a good return for Brady in a trade? I would like to address my RB depth: Addai, Spiller, and Portis. We can start 2, plus a flex.

I have an offer of Jamaal Charles for Brady on the table. Debating whether to hold out for more, or take it.

I personally think Charles is gonna be a bust this year.

You have two of the four elite quarterbacks. How many teams are in the league?

Trading QBs can be tough because you only need one in your line up and even an unspectacular guy like Orton will get you solid points.

12 teams in the league. Personally, I think I have 3 of the top 10 QBs this coming season.

I am not sold on Charles either. I fear Jones may steal some touches/TDs.

Then again, I'm not dealing from a position of strength.

I'm still kicking myself for not picking up Charles at the end of last year, when I knew he was going up against some terrible, terrible run defenses.  Look at the teams he cracked 100 yards against:

Oakland (fourth-most rushing yards/game allowed last year)
Buffalo (third-most)
Cleveland (fifth-most)
Cincinnati (they were good against the run, but he barely got 100 yards on 24 carries, not an overpowering performance)
Denver (seventh-most, he got 259 yards against a team that was losing their fourth consecutive game after being 8-4 and headed for the playoffs; think they might have checked out early?)

I'd hold out for someone more proven, but you've got to improve your running backs.  Addai's not that good, AND he just got a concussion.

Spiller's a rookie who was late to camp, which may not be that big a deal but he's also playing behind a terrible offensive line.  His game, too, is such that he's likely going to touch the ball maybe twelve or thirteen times a game - Reggie Bush-like.  Not a workhorse, not the guy they're going to give the ball two three times when they're inside the opponent's five-yard line (and Buffalo's apt to spend a lot more time inside their OWN five-yard line, anyway).

Portis....  meh.  Old.

If I where you I'd consider holding onto him until a QB is hurt.

If its Peyton/Brady/Flacco that'll suck for you but if not you'll have possibly desparate buyer.

I like Flacco, I got him in the 9th round in my PPR league because everyone else drafted QBs in a run early and I just waited till they started taking backups.

I'm waiting to hear back from one guy, who currently has Cassell as his only QB.

His RBs are Benson, Wells, Forsett, and Bradshaw. Would like to get Benson from him.

The problem: this guy was notoriously MIA during last season. Probably won't respond to my proposal until the Charles offer is pulled by the other team.

I know I'm a homer, but I really think Brady's poised for one helluva year.  Moss looks outstanding, he's gunning for a contract and that's the best thing possible.  Welker will be back, maybe not 100% but he'll be good.  Some of the young wideouts look like they can be legit #3-types.  Both rookie tight ends look like they are going to get a lot of action.  Wondering if Hernandez could be a steal at the TE spot, although Gronk looks like he might get some catches as well.

I sure as hell wouldn't give Brady away.  I'd probably keep Peyton just because he's so [dang] reliable (AND because I'd hate to be doubly-devastated if Brady went down again).  But, Brady could easily be one of the two or three best QBs in the league again, by a pretty wide margin over the "next tier" QBs.   Don't give him away without getting a legit #1 RB or you may well regret it!

The guy who is offering me Charles also has:

Jahvid Best (sleeper, injury prone?)
LeSean McCoy
Arian Foster
Jerome Harrison

And has both Kellen Winslow and Jermicheal Finley at TE.

He also has Gostkowski and Garret Hartley. Not sure why he has 2 kickers, but OK.

He has no depth at WR (only Knox and Calvin Johnson).

I could use upgrades at both TE (Zach Miller) and kicking (Robbie Gould). A multi-player return for Brady and one of my extra wideouts might be an option.

Boy, I really don't like his team.  Lots of guys who are still very much unproven at the RB spot, not a lot of know-what-you're-going-to-get studs.  Didn't Best already get hurt?  Finley's a good TE, but not sure how much better he'll be than Zach Miller (Jason Campbell loves to throw to the TE, and Oakland's still pretty bereft of talent at the wideouts).  Gostkowski ought to be one of the best kickers in the league, but kickers get drafted near the end for a reason.  If Gould doesn't work out, you can usually work the free-agent pool pretty easily based on expected matchups.

I've decided to rekindle the Brady talks, after having seen Charles on MNF.

I've just offered Brady and Zach Miller for Charles and J. Finley. I think Finley in that GB offense is a significant upgrade from Miller. Just a matter of time until Campbell suffers an injury.

Peyton singlehandedly won my Week One matchup, scoring half of my team's points. Rest of my squad did little.
