Chose not to cast my vote when comparing him to the three because Semih is very much different from those guys. The similarities start at their length, liking on basketball and European lineage.

Semih is the quickest among our bigs. I bet KG, Perk, the ONeals and even the Euro bigs mentioned cannot outsprint the guy downcourt. I think he is a better FT shooter than Perk and Shaq. He is an eager learner and defender, always going for the help defense. He even obliges defending (with some degree of success)against Pau in the recently concluded Euro basketball. It is just up to Doc on how he utilizes his talent and upgrade his skills.

Besides couple of mental lapses, Ainge should be pleased with his play in this tournament.

Watched him a little. He is actually not that bad. Very mobile for a big guy. His help defense and recovery time was exceptional. Decent post defender. Rebounds well in traffic, although that is yet to determined with all the banging inside in the NBA. He does however have enough bulk that it shouldn't deter him. Offensively he seems raw & sloppy. He does not have much post-game.

This year he is good enough to be 5th big till Perk comes back. But remains long term project who'll need hours with Redd to work on his game. A big guy with his mobility, I think he can a good defender in the NBA.

Thanks for the insight (and to others as well).
I've not had the chance to watch him play at all yet.  But keeping my fingers crossed that Erden provides something (even if it is a warm body for team practices, that's about all you can realistically expect from the #60 draft pick).

Very solid game in a win against strong Greek team (10pts).

Looks way better than he did in Orlando. Agile, decently athletic, and exerts a good amount of effort. I think he will excel in defending the pick and roll, but struggle in a lot of isolation post ups. So pretty much the opposite of what Shaq and an off the injured reserve Perkins will bring.

I gave him a solid B vs. Greece.  It was definitely the ultimate national grudge match, great effort on part of everyone.  He went 10 pts 2 rebs, plus his usual defense and "little things."

Greece stopped scoring when Semih was on the floor; defense is his forte.  As soon as Semih went off the floor, Schortsanidis (SP?) came in, and immediately got the ball in the low post, against Asik.  Semih is a tough, strong dude.  He is so much more fluent than Perk near the hoop that its isn't even funny.

But further out on the floor, he seemingly is responsible for the "Tony Allen Memorial Bonehead Play of the Game" every single game.   :o

Two years from now, after Bryan Doo and Clifford Ray have a year or two to Woodshed him (the kid has a 'tude), I think Semih will be just fine.

And the boneheaded play is often a ridiculously horrific pick.

Asik has far more finese; but agree that Erden's defense was better. He still stands around and looks lost far too much for my liking.

I was watching the game yesterday and he had a strong second half.   The announcer even got excited after a hoop saying "you are such a beast Erden".  lol

Looks like he had a strong game today looking at the stat line.

Nice thunder dunk today but more importantly he seems to really move his feet well on D.

Not to mention the woodshedding that KG and Shaq will be delivering in practice...

Semih was monster for Turkiye. Clutch block .5 second left. Make sure to watch him tomorrow against USA gold medal match.

My ceiling is Scal. If Semih can play above that I'm satisfied.
