Wow, If players from the Nuggets end up being traded to Eastern conference teams as a result of this we may see a sort of power-shift away from the West as far as the wins column is concerned.

The problem being that no team in the West seems to pose a significant threat to the Lakers' chances of advancing to the Finals...could you imagine Carmelo playing for the Spurs, or the Rockets w/ Yao Ming? Maybe the Suns with Steve Nash, however if Melo + Iverson,  or Melo + Chauncey couldn't beat the Lake-Show then I doubt he'd be able to get it done even with Steve Nash. Maybe on the Mavericks with Jason Kidd and Dirk but even that's just wishful thinking before a season where Phil Jackson is attempting to 3-peat for the 4th time.

I could see him in the East on the Knicks, Hawks, Bulls, maybe even the Wizards w/ John Wall but then the Western conference to me would seem out of balance because the Lakers would again just have a cake-walk to the Finals...maybe the Hornets?  :-\

If Oden can stay healthy I think Portland will be a force in the playoffs next season and stand a chance anyway. But yeah, Unfortunately it's an even easier path for the Lakers.

Don't count Carmelo going to the Knicks yet... Rockets are said to be his prefered choice depending on which source you believe.  The Rockets if they can land Carmelo with out trading Yao in a deal for him will definitely be able to take down the Lakers.

They'll be in the conversation for being able, but don't forget the Nuggets and Mavs this past season were also allegedly "able" before the season ended.

Lets not forget just how good these Lakers are.

To the Clippers

Blake Griffin, Chris Kaman, Eric Gordan and first rounders for Carmelo Anthony and JR Smith works

I hear Denver plans to play hardball - IMO it would be hilarious if 'Melo ended up with the Clippers!

I would trade Andrew Bynum for Carmelo Anthony if I could trade Ron Artest for a physical defensive minded center.

The Lakers offense is vulnerable. They can be turned into a below average offensive team fairly easily. They are too dependent on post scoring + Kobe isolations. Adding a guy like Carmelo Anthony and moving to a Pau/Odom combination more often would make them a far more potent side.

Lakers need Artest's toughness. Their offense has been improved substantially from the perimeter with Blake and Barnes - I'd be surprised if they thought moving Bynum for 'Melo + Nene would be a net positive.

the Lakers are indeed good but Denver would've had a chance if they had a head coach. looking forward to the Blazers posing a real threat to LA if they (mostly Oden) can stay healthy though.

If Melo goes to the Rockets, who would they give up that Denver wants? as it stands, the Rockets roster goes like this:

Brooks/Lowry
Kevin Martin/Courtney Lee
Battier/?
Scola/Chuck Hayes/Chase Budinger
Yao/Brad Miller

the Knicks are a longshot right now but the Nets and Clippers are probable destinations too.

I am surprised by some of the teams people think the Nuggets will try to trade with. The Nuggets are officially blowing this thing up. That means they want extremely talented youth, players of short contracts and picks. They also will have to send Melo to a team he will be willing to sign a three year extension with otherwise, no one is going to want to trade for him to let him walk away.

Teams with stuff the Nuggets want they could realistically talk to:

Clippers - Blake Griffin, Eric Gordon, picks
New Jersey - Derrick Favors, picks
Minnesota - Ricky Rubio, Kevin Love, Wesley Johnson, picks
Charlotte - Eric Dampier's expiring contract, picks
Washington - John Wall, picks
Sacramento - Tyreke Evans, DeMarcus Cousins, picks
Golden State - Stephen Curry, picks
Philiadelphia - Evan Turner, Jrue Holiday, picks

Out of those clubs, teams that Anthony would agree to go to:

Clippers
New Jersey
Philadelphia - big maybe

The Nuggets aren't sending Carmelo to the Lakers or the Rockets or Atlanta or Utah or Boston or Chicago or any other team that doesn't have a super young possibly emerging superstar and the possibility of high future draft picks that will be traded unprotected.

It's just not happening with those successful teams that have lower tier level stars and are good already. The Nuggets aren't taking back salary or low first round picks. That's not what you do when you blow things up.

And that might be about it.

Start giggling hang up the phone immediately and then proceed to gossip about Ainge and his stupid low ball offers. (he's got somewhat of a reputation for those, or at least he did)

Say no, they seem interested in keeping nene and Perk is a finishing piece, not someone you build around.

Well I guess the most interesting aspect of the fact that the Nuggets might let go of Carmelo Anthony is that I get to test out Anthony on different teams w/ NBA Live. Same w/ the Miami Heat, Celtics trades, Stoudamire and the Knicks, etc.

Heck, if I go to 'create-a-player' I can have Patrick Ewing Jr. + Amare w/ Carmelo on the Knicks - almost like a spoiler if he (Carmelo) were to sign there before the season starts.

Let's just say that the Eastern conference already looks way more interesting than the West this season; Celtics w/ Shaq + J.O. & healthy Perkins will certainly be a force to reckon with...
